1) Bistecca: Black Angus Ribeye with baby carrots and potatoes in black pepper sauce
I had this in medium rare, and it was really not bad! The presentation was nice, BBQ sauce paired with the meat perfectly. Funnily enough I loved the potatoes and carrots and wished they gave me in greater portions. Would recommend one to share it instead though bc it’s quite a large serving and I couldn’t finish it :(
2) La Barca Funghi E Tartufo:
Creamy mushroom sauce with black truffle pate mozzarella and smoked scamorza drizzled with truffle oil
This was really good! Done perfectly and wasn’t burnt at all. The creaminess of the mushroom sauce wasn’t too overpowering for someone who can’t take carbonara, and the dough was done perfectly - not too soft. Paired with the mushroom and cream, it was really good. This may get a little gelat at the end, so would be good if you could share both the steak and this! Pretty addictive I found my fork reaching for more.
3) Panna Cotta: Drizzed with fruit drizzles with a hint of passion fruit.
After the heaviness of the two mains, I found this quite the perfect pairing. It looks smooth and bouncy, light on the palette especially with the fruity sauces decorating the plate. It vanished with a few mouths.
Side note:
Staff is super friendly and nice, feel free to ask anything. You need to pay for water! It’s 50cents per cup. They also have a wide array of drinks available that looked promising. The place itself is a cozy restaurant in KINEX, quiet and comfortable. Good for catch ups, especially on a weekday lunch.
Had such a pleasant time at Fat Belly! Great place to go with friends for a catch-up over dinner at a quiet, cosy area. Our waiter Ash was extremely warm, friendly and helpful - telling us facts about the food + communicating just enough for us to feel comfortable at home.
Here’s what we conquered for a table of 5:
Starters
1. Roasted Bone Marrow
2. Grilled Ox Tongue
3. Spicy Crispy Pig’s Ear
4. Uni, Lardo & Carviar Toast on Grilled Sourdough
Very interesting experience if you’re adventurous like us. I especially enjoyed the grilled ox tongue, surprisingly. Pig’s ear tasted similar to fries, with good seasoning as well.
Mains
1. Black Opal Wagyu Zabuton MS6-7
2. 2GR Full Blood Wagyu Rib Cap MS8/9
3. Crusted Mac & Cheese
4. Grilled Seasonal Mushroom
5. Beef Heart (shaped) Tomatoes
This was absolutely mind blowing. Known for their beef, Fat Belly surely didn’t disappoint. The beef came in 2 cuts that was tender with the perfect amount of fat, melting in my mouth. The full blood wasn’t too rare or overwhelming and I’m someone who usually eats my steaks medium.
Mac and cheese is also a must-order, drizzled with truffle oil topped with basil and the perfect amount of cheese. We finished to the last drop of sauce, you can evidently tell which dish was our favourite.
For mushroom lovers, the grilled mushrooms were seasoned perfectly and very addictive. Lastly, the tomatoes were sweet and refreshing to balance out the other savoury foods.
Dessert
1. Eton Mess
2. Burnt Blue Cheese Cake
Cheesecake lovers out there this one’s for you!
They use blue cheese and it went surprisingly well with the cake, not too overwhelming (I don’t usually like heavy cheese). It’s moist and comforting, melts in your mouth. And when you’re feeling gelat, there’s a side of sorbet to cleanse your palette and you’re ready to go again.
Eton Mess was too pretty for us to eat. There’s meringue, vanilla ice cream topped with flowers. For those who can’t eat cheesecake, here’s your alternative.
Overall, we had a splendid time at Fat Belly. Located just 2mins away from Telok Ayer (Exit A), be sure to bring your friends/ family for a delicious meal with great ambience!
