Original Signature Burnt Cheesecake Heard much about La Pasteleria’s burnt cheesecake — having started off as a homebaker during the Circuit Breaker, a store mostly catered for takeaway crowds was opened at Royal Square @ Novena some time ago; was pretty exciting to finally having to try them as La Pasteleria Kitchen & Bar (being a brand under the Taberu umbrella, which operations concepts such as Chao Chao Gyoza and Thai Kha) — a dine-in concept that serves all-day breakfast, salads and wraps in the day, and tapas, mains, pintxos and drinks in the night.
Truth to be told, La Pasteleria’s strongest suit would be in their Signature Burnt Cheesecakes, which is available in quite a wide variety of flavours ranging from the Original, to wackier ones such as Valrhona Dark Chocolate, Neapolitan and Arabica. Thought it would be best to start with the Original Signature Burnt Cheesecake — surprisingly airy, light and creamy, its pretty impressive how their variant held its structural integrity given how smooth, rich and luscious within; no effort required to slice the cake given how it was almost mousse-like in consistency. Also loved how it was not too heavy in flavour — sufficiently cheesy and just a wee bit tart that cuts through the cheesiness nicely, with a slight bitterness from the “burnt” exterior over the top.
Wouldn’t say that the hot food is exactly memorable; that being said, we were rather glad that the service here was actually pretty welcoming and prompt — felt that they did paid attention to details and the staff do occasionally make small talk with the patrons, which made up for it. Would say I am only likely to be back for the Burnt Cheesecake though — pretty intrigued by the various flavours that they have to offer here!
