Take a closer look at the “Cabeza Taco” from my fave taco joint. I am besotted with everything about it. To begin with, the tortillas (they always use two per taco) are soft and warm. Filled to almost overflowing, the small, evenly-cut pieces braised beef cheek and head meat is fragrant with spices and fresh herbs, and generous in quantity. So yes, care must be taken when eating or you’ll risk some of that precious filling tumbling out. A splash of one or more of their housemade hot sauces is imperative as a finishing touch. Fortunately, these are helpfully labelled from mild to hot so you know exactly what you’re in for.
FYI - this taco is the hands-down winner among with T.H., my brother and his wife too.

A second visit to @sevenlivesto was inevitable since I discovered how good their tacos were. This time, my brother Lennard and his wife Cheryl joined us. After a very long wait (partly because it was lunch hour when we arrived and partly because my order slip had mysteriously disappeared between the order counter and the kitchen), we fell upon our tacos like a pack of hungry wolves. Well, after the few seconds it took for me to take the photo above anyway 😆.
I’m happy to say the food was as awesome as I recall, and everyone else shares the same view about it too.
We ordered six tacos in total: one each of the Baja Fish (I was impressed to see that the piece of battered-and-fried-upon-order fish was really large), the Carnitas (braised pork shoulder), the Pulpo a la Mexicana (smoky and very tender grilled octopus with capsicums and white onions) and the Gobernador (Seven Lives’ signature of smoked marlin, shrimps and cheese). As for the Cabeza, the taco filled with beef cheek and head meat we ordered two. It turned out to be the unanimous favourite of us all.

“Seven Lives” has spoiled me for life when it comes to tacos.
Tucked in a small lane on the edge of Toronto’s Chinatown, it is housed in a tiny one-storey building with little seating inside and just two benches outside. But I swear, they make the most incredible tacos that I have ever had in my life. Large in size, they use two thin flour tortillas for every taco and pack it generously with your chosen filling.
I tried their “Baja Fish” and “Cabeza” Tacos and found them both astonishingly good! The former starred a fresh haddock fried till extremely crunchy and dressed with plenty of shredded cabbage and salsa, while the latter was chockfull of braised-in-spices-till-very-tender beef cheek and head meat topped with a big dollop of guacamole.
At CAD$6 (before taxes) each, I feel the tacos here are worth every cent. I foresee myself returning here, or to their new second outlet at The Annex, for more before I return to Singapore.
