It’s the simple things that shine here and this dish is no exception. I can’t say enough about the fresh French baguette so I wont. The stew is peppery, spicy and hearty and (okay just one more) the bread makes for a great sponge to soak the broth up, or a spoon to scoop the tender chunks of beef up. My only beef with this dish is that I wish there was more meat!

To be very honest, I had no idea what I was ordering and I only chose this because it reminded me of a snack I had on my trip in Hanoi. It’s similar to chee cheong fun, with the long stripes of rice noodles, but unlike its noodle mate, you don’t choose the toppings. What you get are spam slices, fried onions and fresh herbs and veggies, tossed in a sweet chilli sauce. A heavy snack, but a must order if you pay Star Viet a visit!

If I ever need a hot bowl of noodles to keep me warm on a cold night, this is it. In fact, my first visit to Star Viet was on a rainy night! The broth is clear yet hearty, the beef stripes are tender and aplenty, and the beef balls are bouncy and springy.

This warrants an order when you pay a visit to any Vietnamese restaurant and it’s no exception here at Star Viet too. These plumpy steamed rolls are jam packed with fresh prawns and herbs – likely one of the fattiest ones I’ve seen! Comes with a side of savoury and nutty dipping sauce that helps puts the all flavours together.

There are a few places that make this Vietnamese-style sandwich well and Star Viet is one of them! The bread is baked fresh daily here and it’s filled with usuals of pickled veggies, meat and topped with cilantro (not my fave). It’s done really well making it a very satisfying meal. Plus, you can even buy the baguettes to take home!
