Had a really satisfying dinner at The House Chungdam. The interior felt calm and well put together — definitely more thoughtfully designed than most Korean BBQ places, which made the whole experience feel a bit more special.
We tried a few dishes, and the BBQ beef slices were a clear standout — super tender and packed with flavor. The cheese potato pancake was also great — crispy, cheesy, and very comforting. One side dish that really stuck with us was the squid — it was so tasty we asked for refills more than once.
Also had the beef tartare with avocado, which was fresh and creamy, with just the right touch of lime to brighten it up. It was a nice contrast to the grilled dishes.
Definitely worth checking out if you're into Korean food and want something a little more elevated than the usual spots.
I really enjoyed the food at Chung Dam, the service was really good as they cooked the meat to perfection for you. The meat was tasty, would recommend the marinated meats. Great atmosphere for a date.
Recently visited The House Chungdam with my partner and it was honestly one of the best KBBQ experiences I ever had.
We ordered Set 1 from the House Feast which is basically the Beef BBQ set.
The portion looked rather small at first, but it was surprisingly filling. The set also came with three side dishes. A bowl of comforting soybean soup, to cleanse your palate to combat the potential dryness from the BBQ, a fluffy steamed egg to add some creamy texture and to balance out the strong flavours of the BBQ-ed meat, and a salad bowl to refresh the senses so you can go for more BBQ.
The standout for me was the boneless short ribs. It was so tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. Really really good. Still craving it now….
There was also a large variety of banchan (side dishes) to complement the beef. Unlike some KBBQs, these sides had actual standards. Not some random frozen sides from the convenience store, but actual good tasting sides. My personal favourites were the radish, kimchi, marinated squid, and garlic. Wrap those sides into the lettuce with your beef and add a touch of salt, place it all into your mouth — simply amazing. And of course with all good KBBQs, all the sides were refillable.
The staff also cooked the meat for us at the table as well which is something I look out for. This ensures the meat is cooked perfectly and I actually have the time and space to just enjoy my meal.
The best part, no smell, their ventilation and suction was so good that you leave there without the usual BBQ smell.
Verdict:
If you're a fan of Korean BBQ, The House Chungdam should be on your must-try list. Top meat quality, coupled with a wide variety of great tasting side dishes.
Dinner at The House Chungdum was an absolute delight. My partner and I ordered the house feast set 1 which comes with boneless short ribs, marinated boneless short ribs and thinly sliced brisket. Upon first sight of the beef, we thought the amount wouldn’t be enough to fill us - but we were so wrong! The boneless short ribs were our favourite for sure. The meat was juicy, fragrant and melted right in our mouth upon first bite. The thin brisket also paired really well with their homemade ssamjang and I kid you not when I say I was happily smiling with every ssam that I made throughout dinner.
The set also includes soy bean soup, banchan, steam egg and vegetables. They had a great selection of banchan; kimchi was rather spicy and had a real kick, seasoned squid and potato egg salad were really good too! The sides really do fill you up along with the meat, cos I was already rather full by the time we were halfway through our meat haha.
Vibes of the restaurant was simple yet classy, with the staff helping to cook your meats so you don’t destroy it with your own cooking :p Another plus point was that the ventilation of the space was really good because there was no lingering oily smell of bbq that you would expect, such that you don’t leave dinner smelling like what you ate! I would highly recommend you to check out The House Chungdam if you’re looking to treat yourself to a nice kbbq :)
Definitely a must try kbbq spot near Maxwell MRT. The ribeye was grilled to juicy medium rare perfection and the pork belly was thick, without any gamey flavours.
The handmade banchan was super fresh, the steamed egg was light and fluffy, and even the side dishes like the soybean stew and cold noodles hit the spot.
Could definitely taste the freshness of each ingredient and the quality really shows. Although my partner and I ordered à la carte, we wished we had gone for the set, as it offers more variety. This place is definitely a must-try.
Visited The House Chungdam for date night on a weekday. First impressions: the interior was very simple and soothing, and the tables were spaced out nicely and weren’t too cramped like other usual Korean restaurants. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly too!
We tried both their K-BBQ and mains! For the BBQ, we got one pork (pork belly) and one beef (rib eye). We got the mini bibim noodles, brisket jjigae and steamed egg! Even the complimentary side dishes were so good and paired well with everything, especially the BBQ!
We were also very shock that even though we had BBQ indoors, it didn’t leave a smell on us 💯🥳
Everything was well prepared, fresh and delicious! We had such a great time. Will definitely be back!
