From Tirato Tiramisu (313 Somerset)
Great find in a food court!
The original tiramisu is a classic, creamy delight at just $7.80 per portion.
Definitely a must-try!
The revamp of several Food Republic food courts around the island had certainly added quite a number of interesting options to dining at the food courts that they operate — the Food Republic food court at 313@Somerset is one that had just reopened its doors after renovations had been done to it. Amongst the several operators that now operate within the food court, one of the more interesting tenants would be Tirato — these folks aren’t entirely new to the food court scene; their very first outlet is actually situated in the Food Junction food court that is located at Lot One in Choa Chu Kang. Similarly occupying the space of a kiosk within the Food Republic food court at 313@Somerset, the Tirato location at 313@Somerset can be found across from the beverages stall of the food court. Being a stall that focuses on their dessert offerings. Tirato serves up different flavours of tiramisu and gelato (hence the namesake); the gelato offered being available in cups, or with cones and waffles.
Considering how Tirato is pretty much an establishment situated in a food court, we would think that the Tirqmisu being served up here are considerably decent. Amongst the various flavours of Tiramisu that they have to offer, the Pistachio Tiramisu was the one that stood out to us the most. Coming in a portion that would likely work well for two (2) pax to share, the Tiramisu seems to come with fluffy cake layers that features layers of pistachio-infused pastry cream that comes in the middle of those layers. We did appreciate the fact that both the cake layers and the pastry cream layers aren’t too heavy; both of them did carry a similar consistency of light fluffiness that went hand-in-hand with one another, with chopped pistachios sprinkled all over the top for an additional crunch and that slight saltishness that one would associate with the nut itself. Whilst the entire tiramisu didn’t seem to veer towards being unnecessarily sweet, it does seem that the direction taken was for the Tiramisu to come with a creamy mouthfeel and lesser on the infusion of pistachio — the strongest flavours of the pistachios here being from the chopped pistachios itself.
During the same visit to Tirato, we had also given the Strawberry Cheesecake Gelato which we had opted for it to be served in a cup. The gelato here does come with a slightly stiffer consistency likely from how it was being stored in the display chiller; thankfully, there was no frozen, icy bits to be found within the gelato. Coming with strawberry jam and crumbles folded within the gelato, the strawberry jam provided a sweet tanginess. The crumbles came in a consistency that is rather fine — similar to what some establishments would refer to as “sawdust” that adds a nuttiness to the dessert. Whilst the sweetness of the gelato is well managed, we did feel that it was coming short of the slight tang of cream cheese that we would expect out a cheesecake-inspired gelato flavour, though such an adjustment may result in a heavier flavour for the gelato that may be a little jelak for some. All in all, Tirato does add on further to the food options that Food Republic has to offer at their 313@Somerset location; whilst their offerings do not strive to be either authentic or artisanal to the true blue Italian renditions of gelato and tiramisu, they still do offer patrons an alternative to the usual that Food Republic food courts have to offer for dessert at a decent price especially if one is looking to share their Tiramisu across the table.
