Speaking of ice cream, I quite enjoyed this affogato at Dutch Colony. The espresso-ice cream combination is jazzed up with gula melaka sauce and an abundance of dates at the bottom of the glass. Go easy on the sauce, though, if you're not fond of saccharine things.

I'm not usually swayed by green tea desserts, but this puddle of matcha goop in a thin shell of cake has just the right balance of bitter and sweet – it's further enhanced by the contrast of ice cream and red bean sauce on the side.
When it comes to fusion food, there usually are hits and misses. In the same way, Babette's take on French/Japanese cuisine works in some areas, but not all. Start with their irresistable Bacon Tempura, and choose from the better donburis - Chirashi ($19), Steak & Foie Gras($28), or Duck Confit ($28) for your main. For dessert, try the Matcha Lava Cake with ice cream and a red bean sauce ($12), and wash it all down with a beer / wine / cocktail!
Special delivery from the Vitasoy team: a Japanese lunch made with tier new range of organic tofu. There's a tofu, apple and chicken salad with seaweed dressing, tofu burger with tomato jam, Thai tau kwa pad thai with Malay tofu otah otah, and a chilled tofu yoghurt cheesecake!
No idea what cut they used, but my piece was extremely fatty and sinewy - think I discarded half the steak. The fact that it also arrived cold didn't help, either. Yorkshire pudding was crisp and light, and quite tasty, but it was hardly a saving grace for this altogether disappointment of a dish.
