Located on the first level of an old building, this slightly cramped restaurant serves up super authentic, very affordable and absolutely delicious Vietnamese fare. From freshly made spring rolls to cockles with tamarind sauce to the usual beef phรณ to juicy grilled prawns and fried quail? And a ton more dishes to choose from? And authentic desserts (think banana with sago and warm coconut cream)? I could go on and on how tasty the food were. Be prepared to queue during mealtimes.
My favourite anju of chef's special tofu chips serve here as vessels for a tongue-tingling ceviche made with squid, black mussel, clam, shrimp, lime, crushed black pepper and kimchi juice.
That combi of sour and spicy really grabs the tastebuds; resistance is futile.
So good and cheesy, I'm feeling grate (great)!! #comfortfood
This is our favourite tonight. Fragrant glutinous rice, tender and soft meat, layered texture and flavours... all nice things served in one steamer.
Authentic Sichuan spicy and numb flavour that comes from natural ingredients. Love the mix of fish, fungus, tofu and Chinese lettuce. Yet it would be so much better if they used fish other than frozen dory. Something flaky and fresh would be perfect.
This plate was darn surprising, and sets you up for what the rest of your meal might shape up to be like. The remarkable thing about this place is its ability to surprise you on every single plate! This was the first time I'd had Lardo, cured strips of fatback (yup it's all fat). These light-as-air strips were just lightly drizzled with truffle honey, and sets your tastebuds going with little hits of chili. Start with this for sure!
If you see this on the ever-changing menu here, don't hesitate. Just order it. Probably the best meat we had all night, this was beyond worth it. A large tongue that brought us on a journey from tip to base, from slightly chewy (in a good way) to melt-in-your-mouth tender. The salsa verde that came with it was the perfect accompaniment. What was most enjoyable about this dish was the fact that they kept it so simple, straightforward and unassuming, and allowed the good cooking of a wonderful piece of meat to shine.
So good you can cry. These babies are grilled to tender perfection and smothered in a thin layer of mayo, chili, and cojita cheese. Sounds deceptively simple, but that's where street food always stumps you, right? Comforting, slightly messy and downright satisfying, this is the best start to a meal.
When your octopus dish doesn't require a knife to eat, you know you're onto a winner. Beautifully tender, with a gentle bite, these morsels of octopus come draped in the thinnest of Lardo slices, and atop roughly mashed Ratte potatoes. As the lovely server suggests, allow the glorious layer of pork fat to sit for just a minute, and let the octopus adopt a new skin. Delightfully simple, this was one of the best bites I've had in a long time. Portions here are good for 4 to share!
