When there's pig's head on the menu, you'd be silly not to order it. Cutting through this is like an essay on texture: first, the knife's deft pierce through thin ravioli skin releases a quivering egg yolk, then, a satisfying crunch through a crisp coat, and finally, the blade yields completely when it touches the lovingly braised and pulled pig's head. Every part of the head is in there, save for the eyeballs. Almost instantly, yolk meets meat, creating something far greater than the sum of its parts. If I had one way to describe it, I'd call it "essence of pig" - almost like every pig dish I've ever had put into one voluptuous, intense bite that etches itself into your taste bank, never to be forgotten.

Oh glorious sashimi! Always looking forward to having unlimited sashimi, and you know you can always rely on Ikoi for that sashimi fix. Another hit here would be the salmon skin handroll with the crispiness paired with a creamy mentaiko-liked sauce. So crispy you can hear the crunch when you bite into it! The other dishes of the buffet ($38++) were unfortunately underwhelming.

Sail on down to this pastel-themed 40-seater joint, which boasts a seafood-centric menu that thankfully won't burn a hole in your wallet. The brainchild of Indra Kantono and Gan Guoyi of Jigger & Pony and Sugarhall, Humpback was conceived after the duo slurped down oysters at the Hama Hama oyster farm in Washington, USA. Here at Humpback, you can indulge in the same oysters, like Blue Pool, Totten Inlet and Rocky Bay, freshly shucked at $6 a shell (just $2 during Happy Hour: 5-7pm, Monday to Saturday!). The Calamari ($14) — fried to perfection, set atop mashed potatoes and surrounded by a moat of 'crazy water' (don't worry, it's just a light tomato broth) — is a sure win for all. You must go for the unassuming, lightly-charred Cabbage ($10) sprinkled with herb cheese, crispy quinoa and a generous douse of chilli oil, you won't believe how good they've made this humble vegetable taste. Finish with the Valrhona Chocolate Mousse ($10) that comes drizzled with sea salt, making this simple dessert go from blah to wow, and the whole experience a whaley good one! Pro tip: Pick a Monday night, where Happy Hour prices go all night long, dine al-fresco with your best friend, and attack those oysters!

Mac & cheese pasta! Super creamy but if you're a Mac and cheese lover, you might just like this.

KEK is one of those rare zi char places with friendly and prompt service, and it's perfect for big groups of friends or for a family gathering. Expect simple, homely dishes that are big on flavour, such as the Moonlight Hor Fun ($5/8/12/16) — lush wok hei hor fun with Chinese sausage, prawns, beansprouts and lard, finished with a raw egg that completely transforms the dish when you mix it in. The Fried Salted Egg Crab is another crowd favourite, think fresh crab tossed in a "thick, buttery salted egg sauce with a hint of spiciness", as Tastemaker Marc T. describes. The Coffee Ribs ($8) are a hit as well, tender on the inside, and glazed with a sweet, sticky coffee sauce. There are both outdoor and indoor seating, make sure you call ahead for reservations!

Following his departure from JAAN, everyone was excited to see chef Julien Royer’s return. Named after his grandmother, Odette has finally opened its doors in the swanky, iconic National Gallery Singapore. The approach to both the food and the space is similar, one that has found a delicate balance between honesty and flair. It is wonderfully refreshing to experience a fine menu in such a comfortable space, one that retains formality while keeping you at ease. Go for the four-course lunch ($88), or indulge in a six-course meal ($128) on weekdays. Alternatively, splurge on a special occasion with the six- ($208) or eight-course ($268) dinner. Expect some twists to a couple of familiar dishes from JAAN (think a modified 55' smoked egg), alongside new creations such as the Hand-Picked Scottish Scallop which boasts fresh, springy scallops over a juicy, smoky slab of charcoal-grilled Kurobuta pork belly. This is a meal to remember, for sure.

Essentially a well-cooked salmon in a comforting light broth designed to simulate a grandmother’s protective warm hug, and ideal for the broken-hearted, path-lost and sick. 3.9/5

Scallop Mentaiyaki Carpaccio is a must order whenever I come to Sushi Bar (besides the sushi rolls of course). Thinly sliced fresh scallop done carpaccio style goes wonderfully with the salty creaminess of the mentaiko sauce. More please!

Throwback to last week's dinner at Ikoi Japanese Restaurant. Buffet dinner is pretty affordable at $38++ per adult and the spread is quite extensive. However, as I do not eat sashimi (which I have heard many people complimenting it), I can only take a nice photo of it. My friends went crazy and even ordered additional premium grade salmon belly from the ala carte menu (costs not included in the buffet).

Cured trout, dill tapioca, calamansi and sea herbs. A refreshing citrusy dish that whets your appetite! Love those fish roes which explodes upon biting.
