One of the softest donut ever eaten, texture wise is more like castella cake. Had the original flavour! Will definitely try their matcha n sweet potato if i had the chance
I like my porridge thick and flavourful (like the one at 628 market), so the watery and slightly bland ones here didn't quite appeal to me. That being said, my Mermaid Chok came with fresh scallops, shrimps and fish slices, and a very crispy dough fritter. The side dishes weren't great on their own, but they served as excellent flavour boosters to the otherwise tasteless porridge.
Opened just over three weeks ago in Telok Ayer, Baek Jung Korean Restaurant & Bar is the new kid on the block that aims to grab a part of the wallet spent from the many PMEBs that visit such restaurants for a meal and drink or two during lunchtime and after work.

If you are a Burpple Beyond member, you are in luck as the restaurant is a participating merchant and you can get to enjoy 1-for-1 mains when you dine-in. For this meal, I got the Pork Kimchi Stew and Dakgalbi with 3 Cheese, which both came in hearty portions that will surely to fill you up to the brim. The Pork Kimchi Stew is literally what the name entails and it comes with thick cuts of pork belly in a kimchi stew. The Dakgalbi with 3 Cheese was so comforting that you will instantly go to food coma heaven right after demolishing this plate. Hugh chunks of boneless chicken, cabbage, potatoes and cucumbers are cooked in a red chilli paste sauce (gochujang) before the addition of the 3 cheeses. Unfortunately, the flavours from the cheese didn’t come through, which was slightly underwhelming in my opinion, as the flavours were sort of overpowered by the other stronger ones such as the gochujang sauce.

Though it might seem pretty generic like “hey, it’s just an egg sandwich, how good can it get?” and that’s where you will be genuinely surprised at how a humble egg sandwich can actually deliver such enjoyment. Made ala Japanese tamago style, the thick layer of egg is sandwiched between a thick toast that has a spread of pear sauce and kombu mayo. With all the different elements put in place, it has made an ordinary egg sandwich into an out-of-the-ordinary tamago sandwich.

Mentaiko Mac & Cheese ($20.5)
Flavourful dish with bits of prawn. Mentaiko sauce was perfectly seared with hints of smoked flavour to complement the macaroni!
Okay could you please give me a moment to breathe, because the way that wagyu beef melted in my mouth almost took my breath away. And $30 for this mountain of meat? Certainly a steal! Warning: don’t come here on an empty stomach though, as a chef will personally present (or more like entice) you with these finely cut and marbled strips of A4 grade wagyu before he cooks them right in front of your eyes, which was pure torture for my hollow, cavernous stomach then; yet certainly an interesting experience. The vibes here is also homey and intimate — definitely befitting for an affordable date night option.
