Tetsuya Wakuda's Waku Ghin certainly isn't affordable for everyone, but thankfully, newly opened Patisserie Platine does not break the bank should you fancy a dessert from the celebrity chef. Only available at the RISE Lounge of Marina Bay Sands Hotel, feast your eyes on the variety of intricately designed desserts on display — give in to temptation and indulge in one (or three!) right there or get it to-go and share it with your loved ones at home. Chocolate lovers will definitely find the Black Forest ($12) intriguing, with lusciously rich chocolate and cherries well-soaked in deep alcoholic flavours. For something lighter on the palate, the Ghin Cheese Cake ($12) features a delicate white chocolate mousse encasing a tart lemon curd centre. Complement these luxurious cakes with RISE Lounge’s selection of drinks and your high tea cravings will be sorted in an instant.

The cake is delicately balanced between the sweetness of the lychee and the aroma of the rose. Really really good and recommended.

Very flavorful and a little bit sour with all the jam and the fruits. Overall a refreshing dessert after the mains.

Be prepared to wait if you are there after about 10 am, I went at about 1pm but thankfully the wait was about 20 - 30 mins.
Give a shot with their Local Pancakes (13.90 RM) and say yes to the cashier when she ask if you want ice cream to go with your pancakes (a well worth extra 3.50 RM). Incredible texture, slight crisp but light pandan pancakes that came filled with gula melaka goodness.

As the BIG Group continues on its rebranding streak, we welcome Bella in place of the well-loved Mario & Luigi's along Lorong Kurau. The former choice for date nights has transformed into a fun Italian restaurant, sporting brighter colours and better variety. Do like Burpple Tastemaker Melanie Yu and wind down with your girlfriends here on a quiet weekday night. To help tide you over while ordering, enjoy the complimentary side of bread and grissini (breadsticks). Fresh, off-the-stove Italian dishes are the focus here, best represented by their seafood pasta dishes. The one that gets most of the limelight is a Spaghetti Al Granchio (RM68), spaghetti in roasted sauce garlic butter crowned with a whole mud crab. Less eye-catching but also delicious is the Linguine Vongole (RM38) steeped in a flavoursome clam broth. For drinks, look to the wine list or ask the staff for a glass that goes best with your dish — they'll be happy to help.

If you missed out on a seat at their pre-opening pop-up, now's the time to visit Bocosan Izakaya, which has officially opened in The Vertical. The location is sublime, decked out in sweeping greenery and fine furniture, which makes it excellent for business lunches. Bocosan's menu is focused on sets for now, with elegant choices that fit smart casual occasions. Priced from RM35, expect each to come with a tofu appetiser, salad and fruit for dessert. Though on the pricier side, the Bocosan Wagyu Don (RM85) is an enticing option that sees grilled Austalian wagyu with onsen egg, salted seaweed and truffle shoyu with rice. On noodles, the Bone-In Short Rib Ramen (RM75) is an equally opulent choice with tender short ribs and ramen in a concentrated chicken and beef broth. The portion for this particular dish feels extra large, and will fare well for sharing. For an extra treat, try the Bocosan Maki (RM38) with deep-fried yabby lobster — the one that's smaller but yields sweeter flesh!
Avg price per person: RM60

A welcoming addition to Jalan Sultan, this beautiful and airy cafe is part of Tian Jing; a new boutique hotel with an old Shanghai vibe. For now, no savoury food yet as the building is still under reno, but there’s a huge range of simple but delicious-looking housemade cakes on offer as well as coffee with beans from Illy. Keep an eye on their Facebook page — you might just find yourself with a too-good-not-to-miss buy cake, free coffee deal!

With the recent rainy weather, I just want to cuddle up and stay indoor with VXX’s Butterscotch Hot Chocolate ($7). Slightly salty and sticky sweet, the concoction was not your typical gooey and rich hot cocoa. But instead a little more milky which resulted in a somewhat smoother and balanced cup, imo. Combining their house-made butterscotch with 52% cocoa and honeycomb crumble; the bits of confectionery was a nice touch - adding a crunch and another dimension of sweetness.

Yes you heard me! The talented @monkeey_lizzzyap of @project.atrios came up with this salted egg york earl grey cake a week ago - spiced vanilla sponge cake layered with salted egg custard in it, covered with earl grey cream, lastly topped with s'mores and dripping salted egg yolk sauce at the side of the cake. It has a soft fluffy, spongy texture that reminds me of a chiffon cake and it was not overly sweet. It had a slight salted egg taste in it which I love it but personally would love it to be a lil stronger. Perhaps next time can serve together with some salted egg york sauce at the side for me to drizzle with? Hehe!

Anyway the people at @dappercoffer are really very friendly and thank you so much for the Earl Grey Yuan Yang drink! Looking forward to be back again for your Singapore inspired flavour cakes next week! 😊😊😊
