We ordered the Ang Goli slices instead of the head, the pot came bubbling hot and fish was very fresh.
.
The curry gravy came with an assortment of vegetables. The Assam, pineapple and tomatoes added tartness to the curry and was made tastier having been infused with all the natural sweetness of the fish.
.
$10 per slice is honestly quite on the pricier end, but the chunks were huge and we could've done with just 1 for 2 pax instead.
.
The curry and accompanying vegetables were really generous, so we almost had not enough rice to polish it off!
.
Good spice in a quiet neighbourhood, will definitely be visiting again when the rainy season kicks in.

This place has an awesome array of unique ice cream selections. Staff were friendly and generous with tasting samples too!
.
Ice cream comes in 3 oz ($4) or 4 oz ($5) servings, you can even mix and match flavours for each cup.

Doug loves the Stout Chocolate - boy the stout in there was legit. The choc had a smooth bitterness with an aroma akin to Guinness, creamy and roasty. I had the Parmesan Cheese & Cream Crackers, pretty unique and cheesy without being too jelak, almost feels like eating a cheese board too. The cream cracker chunks were my fav - so crunchy, cheesy, and nutty all at the same time!
.
Our friends had Yuzu and White Chocolate Nori, and we are absolutely in love! The yuzu was very refreshing and light, sour and appetising.
As for the latter, Nori was infused into the creamy milk base ice cream with white choc-coated almond chunks tossed in. This is just a winner through and through and we are definitely gonna have this again the next time round.

With the addition of garlic, chili, and vinegar, the result is a blast of flavours that clings to the noodles as you slurp them up.
.
Generous chunks of braised pork belly are scattered in, with fried fish and braised egg. The pork belly pieces have been stewed for a long time, leaving the meat tender and the fats rendered. For $4, this simple hawker fare is delicious and value for money.

Possibly the best beer in his collection IMO, Love brings out the flavours of a tropical climate, hazy with passionfruit, pineapple and raw mango notes. Strong hops with a clean and fruity bitter finish, the cloudy liquid is refreshing and highly recommended any day. Proud of this home grown gypsy brewery 🙌🏻

His style is of the moist variety, with soft noodles absorbing the reduced broth, giving the dish its pork flavour. Waiting time is about 20 mins. Well worth a try if you're in the area.

This taste is limited edition as the 62-year old hawker's children have decided not to take up his mantle, sadly.

The jumbo oysters were fresh and plump, and the Uncle wasn't stingy on the servings😋However the eggs portion was slightly bland, flour a tad clumpy. This orh luak may not be the best we’ve tasted (we don't need the best all the time) but this dish has been passed down from the hawker’s grandfather with a recipe unchanged for generations. Truly admire older hawkers for their dedication to tradition despite the thirst for diverse flavours and new trends. Simple, unchanged tastes bring bouts of happiness and that's what matters.
.
Slightly on the saltier side, the chili packs a punch and left us wanting more. A good offering for a quaint neighbourhood at MacPherson.

Here we have a generous portion of cool aiyu that fills the cup to the brim, then topped with chewy pearls and taro balls, though not the most unique, was sufficient to give the dessert some texture. Love the Singapore-edition Cheng Tng ($3.80), which includes soft white lotus, and malva nut jelly 彭大海. Would choose this over Blackball on any day, because jelly > ice! Even their basic signature desserts tastes just as good and costs as low as $2.50. Simple joys without breaking a hole in your wallet. How amazing!

Noodles are then added, with chili flakes and a splash of oil.

The store is opened by Chef Wang, who has a couple of outlets opened around the island, dishing out his version of handmade pulled noodles. The wide noodles or 宽面, are unique in Singapore and of a chewy texture, with the savoury and spicy sauce giving the extra kick.

While soaking in the Diwali spirit, we popped by the crowded and chaotic Tekka FC for some amazing munchies. The food here may appear humble and inexpensive, but requires skill and fermentation process for some dishes to achieve the perfect taste and texture.
.
Dum Briyani Chicken | Samad's Tekka Dum Briyani | 01-261
The fragrant plate of briyani is made up of long-grain orange yellow rice. The chicken is tender and delicious, flavours are on point with the right amount of aromatic garam masala. The accompanying dalcha is sweet and contains chunks of brinjal and gourd. There is also cucumber side, which helps to balance the richness from the chicken. At $5.50 a portion, you do get your money’s worth.
.
Masala Thosai | Sri Tiffin Stall | 01-224
If you think a meal for $2.50 is a rare find, we are happy to intro you to one for $1.50. The thosai is griddle-cooked with mixture of fermented rice and semolina flours, crisp and lacy in texture, it holds within a generous amount of the masala/mashed potato mixture. You get a bit of pancake and potato in each bite. These are really tasty and release great flavours when you bite into them.
.
Comes with a myriad of condiments - sambhar (a thinner lentil curry with vegetables), coconut and tomato-chilli chutneys, which in our opinion were the best paired w the mild flavoured thosai.
.
It's safe to say that most stalls would deliver similar food at decent quality and flavours. Don't hesitate to pop by any one to try!

A standard $3.50 bowl gets you braised pork belly, black fungus and a braised egg, pretty substantial in portion.
.
Here, the sauce was well balanced and flavours the rice grains underneath. Lor bak was very well cooked, tender and melts away in your mouth, while the marination was done light and enables meatiness to come through without being too porky. Black fungus and mushrooms give a crunchy and refreshing contrast to the dish. Even the dash of chilli added spiciness and tanginess to the dish. This is the kind of comfort food that keeps you coming back, his service was absolutely welcoming too:)
.
Helmed by Mr William Liou, previously GM of a restaurant group. Glad that he's keeping it humble and not charging exorbitant prices for this dish, which is honestly done exceptionally well. Keep doing hawker tradition proud!
