Unique Cake Flavours Tried the yuzu raspberry & le’ goma (black sesame) cake slices. Both flavours were pleasantly delicious!! Even if you’re not a black sesame lover, chances are you’ll still love the taste of their black sesame cake cause it’s really light and not too rich😋

Konnichiwa Hojicha @dear.nesuto’s Yuzu Raspberry used to be my all-time favourite, until I had Konnichiwa Hojicha. With the distinct layers of mildly sweet hojicha ganache/ light hojicha chantilly/ soft hojicha soufflé chiffon sponge and the rich roasty fragrance; overall it wasn’t too sweet and the cream was so light, I didn’t feel bad at all about it. We finished this up preeetty fast. This roasty creamy goodness is hands down, my favourite cake in awhile. Do note that this seasonal cake is only available for online orders (with free delivery).

Le Goma ($9.90), Le Mmm ($9). This visit was made before the circuit breaker period. 1-for-1 came & drink set with #burpplebeyond! With a group of friends, we decided to have their 2 of their signature cakes. First, the Le Goma, which is akin to a cake version of black sesame paste. Black sesame lovers please don’t miss this! From the layers of moist black sesame sponge cake, nestled with handcooked roasted black sesame cream, finally topped with some crunchy sesame strusel. An extremely nutty cake. I personally like it with lesser cream on top. Le’ Mmm is a paradise for dark chocolate lovers like me. A decadent chocolate cake, made of buttermilk chocolate sponge with premium Valrhona Guanaja 70% whipped ganache layered between, while coated with rich Valrhona Gunaja 70% ganache. Literally made me go mmmmm in satisfaction. You can still preorder their cakes and collect them during this circuit breaker period. Check out https://nesuto.oddle.me/en_SG/ for more details.

Homemade Beef Lasagna ($24), Seafood Linguine ($28), Mushroom Risotto ($20), Spinach & Ricotta Tortellini ($22) Thank you #burpplebeyond for the keeping some of these restaurants in contact! We were able to enjoy Amano's amazing pastas, at a 1 for 1 deal. I called in advance to order so that I didn't have to wait too long at the restaurant. Unfortunately, some of the dishes that I wanted were out of stock, but nonetheless, it was still a hearty meal! The standouts from this meal was the Mushroom Risotto & the Tortellini! The Unami earthy flavours of the risotto filled the air as we opened each container. While it doesn't look like much, it tastes a whole lot better. The tortellini (looks more like ravioli) was packed with spinach & ricotta & each piece was stuffed yet perfectly sealed. The balance of the sauce & the ravioli was just right! If you have a chance, do go for their pizzas as well! Worth every penny!

Burrata Pizza Tomato Base, Burrata & Basil - 3 simple ingredients, but becomes a perfect mix on the pizza. Each slice was tangy, yet savoury, and with a hint of herbs. Definitely a slice that you can chow down easily, this Burrata pizza stole our hearts and stomach the second it hit our tongues. What I enjoyed as well was the thin, light and airy crust, which was hand-pulled before being thrown in the oven! Best part, this is on burpple beyond, and is part of the 1 for 1 offerings!

Tea-Infused Snow Skin Mooncakes Mid-autumn Festival is round the corner, and having some mooncakes is part of the festive custom for this special occasion. This year, my money goes to Crowne Plaza Hotel’s snowskin mooncakes (S$59.50). Personally, I think that snowskin mooncakes have more room for creativity than the traditional baked mooncakes, and Crowne Plaza Hotel has actually managed to incorporate tea recipes into them. Among the four flavours in the assortment, the Matcha Adzuki is perhaps the most common around, with the perfect Matcha and red bean duo in action. The Chrysanthemum Wintermelon flavour is a little too heavy on the wintermelon candy taste. Their Red Date Wolfberry mooncake is my favourite in this box, with distinct notes of red date tea and a touch of wolfberries. Last but not the least, the Earl Grey with Pearl flavour is like a tribute to bubble tea lovers, but it is somehow too off to be considered as an authentic flavour. Each purchase also comes along with a S$20.00 voucher, redeemable at Lobby Lounge or Bar ‘75. It just added more happiness to make this box of mooncakes worth having.

Wagyu Beef Burger ($28) Substantial portion but it’s an average burger at best. Was expecting a bit more for this (was hoping for a homemade patty), but with a 1-for-1 #BurppleBeyond deal, guess you can’t complain much. It’s a nice spot to chill at the airport away from the crowds.

Hainanese Chicken Rice ($28) We ordered this so we can match the burger price for the 1-for-1 deal, but won’t really recommend it (at least not the roasted version as it is a tad dry). The portion was very generous though, and the service was attentive. The space is rather intimate, so it’s good for quiet date nights right within the airport compound.

Iberian Pork Meat of cut was shoulder blade done medium well. Look at the hues of pink! Liked how the fats was congregated at the edges encapsulating the moistness within and easily removable if we are skipping the fatty part. Meat was really tender to my liking, with a little herb and peppery flavor to it. Got to try it for yourself! Overall ambiance was good too, good location for a light hearted dinner & drinks!

With a refreshed all-day ala carte menu, launched since the beginning of March, there are new creations waiting to excite diners of PORTA. Starting off with an appetizer such as the Parma Ham ($16) will help open your tastebuds as this dish tingles with your three tastes’ categories in sweet, salty and sour. The dish comprises of a mesclun salad with watermelon cubes that have been compressed with lime juice and lime zest and Parma ham. A little drizzle of balsamic vinegar and some Thai lime aioli by the side adds life into the dish. For the main courses, diners can choose between the Black Cod ($29) or the Venus Clams ($24), with the latter slightly edging out for me though the former is very good as well. The delicate and oily fish, coated with a pistachio and puffed rice layer, is pan-seared skin down to get a crispy exterior before finishing it in the oven and served with a baby spinach puree and edible flowers. For the pasta dish, capellini is cooked in a clam stock that contains shio kombu to give it the savouriness while the Indonesia clams brings a touch of sweetness to the overall mouthfeel. What probably is the ingenious touch is adding lots of sliced garlic and a chilli padi into the cooking to spice things up a little while sakura ebi completes the finishing garnish. •••••••••••••••••••• 📍PORTA 1 Unity Street, Park Hotel Clarke Quay, Level 1, Singapore 237983

so-so food tried the ham crossiant with pumpkin soup ($14) & a butterfly pea yuan yang ($6) while my friend got the lox and bagel. the best tasting item was the croissant. Personally liked having the apple slices in it, although others might not. it adds a nice crunch crunch plus it complements the sauce and ham! not a fan of the pumpkin soup as theres some smell to it. the bagel could use more cream cheese too!! (didnt try the smoked salmon cause i dont eat raw stuff) and the smell of onions was quite strong. couldnt taste the earl grey in the yuan yang as well :'(

For Pastries Made With Japanese Techniques Are cruffins your thing? Check out Bread Yard for tasty variants (think Matcha, Passionfruit and Lychee) of the croissant-muffin cross breed. This rustic bakery also specialises in breads handcrafted with Japanese and European techniques, along with leavened pancakes and breakfast staples. Burppler Terence Ong says "Do try the kouign aman. This sugary treat was surprisingly good. I like the crusty crystallised sugar that surrounded the entire buttery, flaky pastry." Photo by Burppler Terence Ong
