Chicken briyani (owner only charged me 4nett cos it was the end of the day) While the chicken was dry, it was full of flavour and the gravy it was cooked in was delicious, noticeably different from the usual. Extremely savoury, slightly sweet but not too spicy, it complemented the chicken really well. Rice was extremely fluffy while the curry had a full body from the chickpeas, and it was more tangy than savoury. While it may appear mild at first, there's this heat which burns the back of your throat. Definitely the best briyani I've had by far if only the chicken was remotely tender. Hopefully it's because it's the end of the day and it tastes much better when it's freshly cooked. Do note that their closing time vary wildly from 1pm to 4pm depending on the business. For me when I arrived at 3pm there were only 2 packets left and he was preparing to close. P.S. the portion is huge tho, good enough for 2

For Possibly the Best Biryani in Tampines Recommended by a Grab driver to Tastemaker Zul Latiff, the Nasi Biryani Ayam ($5.50) at Tampines Street 11 is, according to Zul, "a full-bodied biryani that eclipses virtually other renditions that I've had, maybe with an exception of one or two". It is also possibly the best biryani in Tampines in his books. This Halal chicken biryani ticks all the right boxes — the long-grained basmati rice and curry are both really fragrant and deliciously seasoned, and then there's the chicken, which is redolent with spices from the rice and is what Zul describes to be "tender to a fault". We're sold. Avg Price: $5 per person Photo by Burpple Tastemaker Zul Latiff

Best Briyani…In Tampines?! [Halal] Under normal circumstances, you’ll never catch me having a plate of Nasi Briyani to myself. Not that I have anything against it, but it just feels like a dish suited for grand occasions, namely weddings. Yet, here I am, trying Shaik Mohamad’s Nasi Briyani Ayam ($5.50) after a Grab uncle recommended and lauded this. So how does it fare? It was actually very good. Now I know briyanis aren’t exactly gourmet or anything to critically assess, but really there are a couple of things about this that are worth mentioning. The long-grain basmati rice and the curry were both so fragrant and deliciously seasoned with flavour, that they were essentially a crime. And the huge piece of chicken that came along with it…holy. The meat was tender to a fault and carries some of the spices that were cooked with the cauldron-size pot of rice which made it incredible. In short, this was a full-bodied briyani that eclipses virtually other renditions that I've had, maybe with an exception of one or two. My only gripe though is with the smell. Forgive me, for I personally find it hard to stand even a whiff of lamb and mutton. They are notorious for having a pretty pungent, hot rubber-like smell, which was quite detectable in this. If you’re like me and find it difficult to tolerate, you might actually be convinced by that alone to give it a miss, but trust me – don’t be quick to dismiss it because as the old adage goes, smells can be deceiving…right? Crab Was Not Fresh Went for the Ala Carte dinner buffet with 3 other friends (it was min 4 to dine for buffet). Ordered a variety of items with hits and misses. The prawns and fish were fresh, salted egg fish skin dish came hot and freshly prepared but the chilli crab (Limited to only 1 order for each table) was disappointing. The sauce taste like it’s some instant sweet chilli sauce and the crab was not fresh. There wasn’t much of the crab taste and the meat sticks to the skin. Paid $38.80+ each for this. Although it isn’t too expensive, we will definitely not be back again as it is not worth it. The service is not the best as well as all the servers seems like they are in a bad mood.

One of the more unique desserts from a Chinese restaurant . A good combination of Singaporean flavours with black glutinous rice served alongside frozen durian mousse and fresh coconut ice cream inside a coconut. Its a thoughtful reinterpretation of the classic local Pulot Hitam dish and works very well. The fresh coconut meat scraped off the walls of the fruit and the coconut ice cream are light and sweet, balancing the rich, heavy flavours of durian and the rice. Overall, one of the best desserts I've had at a Chinese restaurant 👍 . #burpple #chopebites #dessert

Danggui Duck Rice (4.5nett)+Char Siew (2nett) +Roast Pork (2nett) This post begins with a caveat that I ate this at 8pm, so the quality of the meats is expected to drop. With that being said, the danggui duck was really a steal at its price point. Superbly juicy and flavourful, it's a pity some pieces were a little dry. However, I wouldn't doubt that a few hours ago, the skin could very well been crispy. The char siew was also glistening with soft fat, though it wasn't greasy. It has a distinct flavour that I could get used to and I imagine some people would really dig it. The sauce on the rice has a strong fermented soybean sauce presence, making it very savoury to balance out the sweet notes of the char siew and duck. Finally, it's a miracle that the roast pork still maintained that biscuit skin even at this hour. Even though the muscle is slightly dry, the great marbling more than made up for it.

For Shiok Roast Meat Noodles If you like Hong Kong-style roasted meats, give this newish stall at Jin Biao Coffeeshop (Tampines Street 22) a go. Our Tastemakers ordered the Roast Pork, Char Siew and Roast Duck Noodles ($6.80), and were surprised by the quality of the meats, especially the duck! "The roast duck is succulent, smooth and tender; none of that grainy texture that you are going to get here," says Tastemaker Xing Wei Chua. The skin also boasts a lovely crackle. Apart from the duck, both the roast meat and char siew are tasty. The roast pork nails it with crackling crisp skin, while the char siew offers a good mix of fat and char, and a deliciously smoky flavour. The bed of noodles are springy and tossed in a savoury sauce — the perfect canvas for the tasty meats! Pro tip: If you're simply here for the duck, get the Roasted Duck Noodles for just $3.80. Three Meats With Noodles ($6.80) This Hong Kong style roasted meat stall in Tampines really caught us by surprise! We tried three of their meats and the choice is easy; come here for the shiok roast duck! 😝 The duck is tender and slightly sweet but man, is that skin on that bird just so good! Theirs retained a slight crackle that's so hard to find at roasted meat stalls. The char siew here is good too, with a good amount of fat and char on it. Definitely a plate of goodness I wouldn't mind returning to. 😋 If you're just looking for a simple plate of roasted duck noodles, it'll just set you back a nifty $3.80.

Long Bone & Popularity This was not nice 🥺 the meat was tough and dry, doesn’t fall off the bone at all, & hard to eat. Also ordered taupok that is overly sweet.

1-for-1 BKT! My date and I got their Founder BKT ($9.80) alongside the free Popularity BKT by using Burpple Beyond. The difference is in the meat - Founder BKT came with a rib and Popularity came with unknown parts. Meat was dry and slightly tough, but it was quickly fixed when I doused it in chili and dark sauce. You can also request for chopped garlic to add into your condiments! Soup was less peppery than most named stores. If you prefer lighter broth, you’d enjoy this. Unfortunately I was seated under the ceiling fan, and the food cooled really quickly. We ordered charcoal youtiao ($2), which was a win cause the fried fritter was crispy and hot! It was also really oily with grease all over the plate, but that was expected. Taste of charcoal was unnoticeable. Braised peanuts ($3.50, small) was a great treat, perfect for 2-3 people. Service was attentive and I appreciated the quick soup refills.

Founder BKT With #burpplebeyond Trying out the BKT from @founderbkt at Bugis with #burpplebeyond! Glad to say that the quality of the food turned out to be better than expected, as I tried it previously at the other outlet and felt it was only average at most then. The pork tasted fresh with no weird porky aftertaste. The soup was also peppery enough and not overly salty. The lettuce was really crisp too. The only 2 letdowns were the braised tau kee and the rice, as both were too tough IMO. I also felt the braised sauce to be too sweet. Otherwise, the BKT here is pretty worth a try! 🐷

BB 1-FOR-1 // Wagyu Beef Buffet BILL: Premium dinner buffet for 2 comes up to be $148.02 after GST and service charge * Inclusive of free flow drinks and Ben & Jerry's ice cream REMARKS: * Indoor and outdoor seating available * Various types of dipping sauce * Good variety of hot and cold drinks * Cooked food such as fried rice, sushi, soba, gyoza, chicken skewers, mixed veggies * 8 flavours of Ben & Jerry's ice cream * Unsure of what is the wagyu beef grade but still a good experience trying wagyu beef dishes we never had before such as ox tongue, wagyu beef tataki and even wagyu beef tartare * Service is good; our empty ingredient plates were promptly cleared by the polite Filipino staff * We stuck to the 90-minute limit and stopped ordering and barbecuing when the time was up. We continued to sit for a while more, drinking and eating ice cream and there was no pressure from the staff for us to leave. Appreciated that. * It did get a bit gelat towards the end though * Pork cheek fillet was superrrr fatty and tough to chew * Enjoyed the wagyu beef short plate and scallops the most

Delicious but pricey Paid ~$148 (after gst n svc charge) for 2 pax for the 90 mins premium buffet. There was a decent variety of wagyu beef cuts and the wagyu was melt in your mouth yummy. Staff was pleasant and brought our orders relatively quick and were helpful in changing our grill too. Overall pleasant experience but the fact that burpple beyond basically only gives you ben & jerry's ice cream (for $3 less than their in house $59.90++/pax promo), makes the beyond deal pretty bad as compared to other restaurants. Not a true 1 for 1.
