Using Umeboshi plum to make the rice, it has a pink hue to it and garnished generously with a locally mixed furikake. The set meal only costs $4 and you can opt for either the Umeboshi rice/porridge and braised pork belly/pork shoulder (which is a leaner cut of meat). It also comes with a side of preserved cucumbers and a bowl of soup which changes daily. Customers can enjoy a free refill of soup after they have finished their initial serving. For me the star of the meal has got to be the Umeboshi rice which has a slight tanginess to it and the fragrant furikake makes all the difference. The braised pork has a local flavour to it and goes very well with the rice. Overall, a hawker stall that's definitely worth visiting for a unique meal experience, not commonly seen in other places.

The Claypot Mee Tai Mak (the $8 medium portion feeds two to three) at this HDB zi char joint may not be pretty, but it's darn tasty and most comforting after a long week. Dive straight into the plump noodles, bathed in the bubbling, thick and flavourful broth, and stirred through with chopped vegetables, minced meat, prawns and a freshly cracked egg. Ask for some chilli padi for an added kick! Also great for sharing are the Salted Egg Pork Ribs ($10) and the Boss Bee Hoon (get the small $15 portion to share between two to three). As its name suggests, this place also does a mean traditional Fish Head Steamboat (from $23 for a small portion) β€” the perfect dish to share with your family on a cool night. Pro tip: Call to reserve a table and pre-order dishes so you can dig in the moment you arrive!
Avg price: $13 per person

I have no idea why I'm only posting this now when I've had Dal Komm's iced honey grapefruit ($8.90) multiple times, but anyway this my FAVOURITE thirst quencher of all time and I never fail to crave it on a hot day (aka every day....). It's light, tangy, and bursting with an intense citrus flavour while the honey adds a delicate sweet balance. Of course let's not forget the juicy chunks of grapefruit!!!!! 😍😍😍

On the 18th of September,12.45pm, PARK Cafe at Holland Village officially became from our personal favorite to probably the most discriminative Cafe of the hour in all of Singapore.

To cut long story short, upon arrival we asked for an indoor seating but was rejected despite asking TWO times because they claimed they were all reserved.

Within a minute of being outside, a Caucasian man came asking for an indoor seating (clearly with no reservations made), and the manager, without hesitance, guided him to his Indoor seat. Stunned, my wife and I dropped our menus, told the manager that their service is ridiculous and this was what he has to say, "We made a mistake." Oh, and there wasn't even an apology to follow it.

I wouldn't have written this complain but with an unapologetic manager and one that gives you an attitude for being angry at their service? This is utter b.s. If your business model solely revolves around the business of Caucasians (as what your manager has clearly shown), you could do us locals a favour by putting up a sign to say "only Caucasians are embraced with warm, open arms", and save us this unnecessary displeasure.

On the behalf of other Singaporeans who's been discriminated as well, we've had enough of this. We're not asking for priority service, only equality. Park Cafe, you're as unpatriotic as it gets and here's an eternal goodbye from a once loyal local supporter. #notpriorityonlyequality

A sister outlet to the popular izakaya Katanashi at Boat Quay has opened along Boon Tat Street, and you can expect the same level of authentic Japanese hospitality and service experienced at the original branch. However, both outlets offer different Japanese tapas dishes, and Katanashi An is designed to feel more like a restaurant than an izakaya. Some of Katanashi An's notable items include their tofu topped with squid and sea urchin, marinated grilled chicken with lemon and yuzu pepper, and the mille-feuille sushi -- an inspired creation of layered sushi with salmon, tamago and tuna, topped with salmon roe.

Newly opened in Ang Mo Kio, Murphy's offers authentic English fish & chips in a cafe setting, with their delicious arrowteeth fish fillet available in both its traditional pairing with fries, as well as in burger form. Don't forget to splash a generous glug of imported malt vinegars (Murphy's stocks both original and onion flavours) all over that perfectly fried fish for a legit experience. If fish isn't your thing, Murphy's also offers coffee and a small selection of cakes. Interesting fact: Murphy's currently has a partnership with the National Library Board of Singapore to be a Book Exchange Center under Project Earth, so you can actually trade used books with the ones on their shelves! Go ahead, bring an old book over and enjoy a spanking new book with a cuppa at Murphy's.

It may look like Chilli soup but it's not spicy. It is actually fragmented red wine boil with chicken and rice noodle ηΊ’ζ§½ιΈ‘πŸ”ι’ηΊΏ

When we first discovered it's the same uncle who was plying his trade at Taman Jurong when the Hubs was a teenager, he got really really excited! Loved the Nasi Goreng Ikan Bilis, Mutton Chops & Mee Hoon Goreng! Yummmm #singapore #singaporean #singaporefood #singaporedining #instapic #foodaroundtheworld

I love potatoes and definitely love rosti! Thankfully I discover this place near my place. The rosti is not too bad and they have other western food.

$3, $4 or $5. Forgot to take a pic so this waving kitty is the only one. From Chun Heng Noodle House open since 1962, the dry version was excellent with 7 pieces of pork ribs swimming in dark herbal soup. Can choose from a variety of noodles, served lightly tossed in oil garnished with spring onions and fragrant fried shallots. Very worth it for just $3.

First time having it. Tastes great, cilantro rice is cooked well, a little dry for the chicken, sauces were exquisite and you could taste the freshness in the freshly made tomato sauce. Overall delish!
