Red hill chwee kueh ( Hong Shan chwee kueh )
Redhill market

This stall has a huge signboard that says “ redhill chwee kueh “ in Chinese.

Think smooth rice cakes with the QQ texture with a nice faint rice fragrance covered with roughly chopped crunchy preserved vegetables that lends such a nice juxtaposition of textures against the soft rice cakes.

This is chwee kueh at its most traditional. I like that the persevered radish ( chye Po) was savoury rather than sweet and this complemented the home made chilli ( which had a tinge of sweet ) quite well .

Mr Chan , the friendly stall owner has been selling chwee kueh since his teenage days ( at prince Edward market ).

These days he operates only on Saturdays and Sundays so be sure to catch him only on the weekends ( 8 am to 7pm or till sold out ).

Excellently executed Char Kwey Teow from a stall named Zhong ji at redhill Hawker / market.

The Kwey Teow texture was superior - silky smooth with a good stretch.
The flavour was well balanced with a good mix of sweet ( from the black sauce ) and savoury undertones ( from the fragrant garlic and soy sauce) and good wok hei.

Ask for less oil so that you can save your calories to stomach the vast variety of food at the market.

This stall also does pretty good carrot cake ( especially the white ones), Hokkien prawn mee and fried rice.

The lady boss is super accommodating! Told her i want to try both the chicken rice and curry. She offer a $6.50 combo. $4.50 large chicken rice and $2 bowl of curry.

Flagrant rice, tender chicken and savoury curry! Btw the soup has tou gey in it, so nice !

Went with a top up of smoke duck on mentaiko smoke salmon rice bowl. Runny onsen egg, Japanese pickles and fish roes made it even better.

At the end of the meal, I have $14 dollar less, but left as a satisfied man.

Ok, that's all.

Bought this mee soto from the stall "Haji Salim Food Stall" which is located at the back end of the hawker centre. (Stall is sandwiched in between two indian stalls though).

I'm pretty picky when it comes to mee soto. I like mine with the thin layer of translucent oil on the surface, not those thick gravy kind so this was the perfect choice for me.

Served with a generous amount of chunky shredded chicken and crunchy beansprouts in a intensely flavourful chicken stock infused with blended of spices like turmeric, coriander and fries shallots. The addition of faintly bitter minced celery leaves were a light, nice touch which cut through the spiciness and richness of the dish. Served with a side of red chili and black sauce. The stall makcik was nice enough to refill the gravy for me when I asked for more chilli instead. And of course, any mee soto is incomplete without the begedil (potato patty)! The version here is pretty solid - crackling crisp batter enveloping a roughly mashed (definitely homemade) core which retains plenty of satisfying bite and texture, with just a hint of spice. Additional cost of $0.70.

Price: $2.80

Serving a fusion of shrimp wanton mee with options of ramen toppings (soft core egg, thick chasui, tempura) with generous serving. Opted for a medium serving with addition of all toppings at $9.

1st thing first, this place only ACCESSIBLE BY CAR.
Ordered a few dish:
Cabbage Chicken🐔 - (only available on weekend) -$25 not bad lei, whole chicken with herbal soup 7/10.

🐷Pig knuckle - ($20+) This one not very nice 😑, way too much meat. Somemore only some more tender 4/10.
Bak kut teh - overcooked meat. But soup not bad. $6

The bee hoon& kway tiao - nice and not oily, abit of HK fire taste 7/10

Kang kong- not bad, just spicy enuff.

$64 for 4 people meal.
Chosed to seat outdoor(sheltered) instead of aircon scare got smell.
Overall not bad, considering the price and food.

As it was during lunch, they were serving the weekday lunch sets and I cannot miss the chance of ordering one of my favourite Thai dishes, Basil Pork Rice ($6.90), which comes with a fried egg on top of the rice. Definitely one of the more homely and authentic tasting basil pork dishes in Singapore without having to travel to Golden Mile. I must find time to come back here soon for dinner to try the Tom Yum Soup and Crab Bee Hoon.
