Back in Singapore to this Mochi Pancakes from Old Hen Kitchen . A stack of fluffy pancake with mochi right in the center of it. It is topped with granola, vanilla bean ice cream, and fresh berries, served with cinnamon maple syrup. Somehow the fluffy pancakes work perfectly with the chewy mochi without being too heavy, and the granola gives extra crunch to the bite.
We can never have enough of Pontianak food! 😄 This one is probably the best Nasi Campur Pontianak that we have already had! We first tried this as suggested by one of us who was born in Pontianak.
.
Similar to the other non-halal Nasi Campur, the standard contents in the dish are grilled pork, pork charsew, pork sausage, egg, chicken, garlic and rice. What differentiates the Pontianak one is the usage of clear and thick sauce which should be poured directly to the rice and toppings. We think this is also one of the things that makes Nasi Akwang tastes really good compared to the others with the spices that they use for the sauce! We suggest you to pour it a lot to your rice! 🤤
.
They also have a jumbo portion for you that are really hungry. Other than the food, we also love their Liang Teh which is quite different with the other ones since it has a purple color 😄
If you’re into wagyu beef, The Fat Cow Donburi from Fat Cow is a good one. Charcoal-grilled wagyu beef served over seasoned Japanese rice with onsen egg (and onsen egg never fails ✨). There’s also a distinct truffle oil flavour in it. We do recommend you to have it during lunch and have the lunch set (comes with chawanmushi, miso soup, and salad)
Unlike the usual Yong Tau Foo stall, this one doesn’t let us to choose the item but you can let them know which one do you prefer to have more of. This Yong Tau Hu consists of Tau Kee (beancurd skin), Tau Pok, tofu, and fish balls served in soup with beehoon. You can really taste the freshness in their fishballs as they are handmade
For the love of noodle (and Peranakan foods)! We tried Dry Laksa from one of the best Peranakan restaurants in Singapore, Violet Oon.
.
What makes it different from the regular Laksa? Well, as the name suggests, it is dry. The rice noodle is tossed in laksa pesto with beansprout, tau pok, and prawns. You can really taste the spice of laksa but it’s not too strong. What we like about this dish is that the noodle is fully covered in laksa pesto making it so flavourful, it makes a big different from eating regular laksa. And the prawns, they are so so fresh. Definitely recommended!
We used to be a big fan of Sushi Tei in Jakarta but we got disappointed a few times when we went to the ones in Singapore. So we went to find some other good Japanese restaurants in Singapore, one of them is SENS.
.
We always opt for Salmon Sashimi for starter, and theirs is always fresh (to proof our point, one of us is allergic to seafood that is not fresh but never occur when we eat here). If you want something simple, try their Saba Shoyu Yaki. Simple grilled Saba fish seasoned with soy sauce, it is fresh and light. Pair it with their Niniku Chahan (garlic fried rice)!
There are two types of french fries eater. One who likes it soggy and one who likes it crispy. This dish is dedicated to all of you who prefer soggy over crispy fries.
.
Katsu-Ni is basically pork or chicken katsu cutlet served with egg and shoyu stock in a hotpot. As it is drenched in the stock, it won’t be as crispy as the usual katsu cutlet. What’s special is that the stock doesn’t make the katsu too wet or soggy because the batter in not that thin. It is just the right amount of softness, making it a nice comfort food
Sometimes the best thing is the simplest one, like this Assam Fish from Lee Wee & Brothers.
.
Now this pack of Assam Fish costs you less than SGD 5, it is not fancy in appearance, but don’t let the look fool you, it is by far the best Assam Fish for us. It is creamy without being thick, the dory fish is fresh and super soft, and served with lady finger and eggplant.
.
Each portion serves 1 and comes with no rice. You can get a portion of rice for SGD 1.40
Butter Pork Ribs, the name of this dish doesn’t sound unique at all, until you see it served on your table.
.
It is Two Chefs Eating Place’s signature dish, deep fried pork ribs mixed with condensed milk powder. Yes, milk powder, and yes, it is sweet. The verdict? It is good! We can’t decide which one is stronger, the sweetness of the milk or the saltiness from the pork. They just mix together in every bite.
Good Morning, this time we’re exploring Ghim moh food market, starting our day with a simple Chinese Teo chew dish, Singapore Carrot Cake.
.
Ghim moh Carrot cake is one of best. The scrambled eggs and diced radish cakes are perfectly coated with sweet dark soy sauce, abundance of chye poh, delivering a good balance of sweet and salty nuances. The stall uses 100% vegetable oil, a healthier alternative!
Kota 88 is by far our favorite Chinese-Indonesian restaurant in Singapore. The foods remind us of childhood when we joined our moms to Glodok
.
The Nasi Campur is undeniably our go-to, if you’re a first timer here that is what you should try. This time we decided to try their Nasi Goreng Spesial Kota88 and Sup Baikut. Well, where have we been? The Nasi Goreng Spesial (Pork Fried Rice) is to die for. It has the smoky aroma as in nasi goreng tek tek, a thing that we’ve been looking for in fried rice. The Sup Baikut (Pork with Vegetable soup) has that classic homemade taste.
.
Kota88 sells Bintang Beer and liquors, it opens until 3AM. Now you know where to go to fix that past-midnight hunger.
We all love noodle and we all love dumplings, so when there’s a restaurant that offers both at the same time, we’re definitely going.
As the name suggests, dumpling darlings is a restaurant that specializes in dumplings (pot stickers), they have quite a number of filling options like original, spicy szechuan, smoked duck, veggie mandu, momo curry, and fried pierogi (this one is deep fried). As for the noodle, you can choose between miso mushroom, pork szechuan, and braised pork (all dry noodles).
The lunch set (S$16) is very worth the price as you get 1 bowl of noodle, 4 dumplings, and 1 drink of your choice. Here we tried the pork szechuan and braised pork noodles, original dan fried pierogi dumplings. It turns out the star of the restaurant is not only the dumplings, but also the noodles!
