Miraculously ended up in Jurong East again and wanted to try Soi 19 but they were unexpectedly closed for two days. Decided to try their Nasi Lemak and I must say I wasn't disappointed; rice could be a little more fluffier but this was actually pretty decent especially for how the coconut milk was absorbed into the rice which gave off a strong coconut-y fragrance. Ayam Rendang was also executed rather well with punchy flavours of the spices and the succulent and tender flesh of the chicken drumstick used. Chili was also pretty outstanding here, lightly spicy and just sweet enough which hits the iconic characteristic of a good Nasi Lemak chili. Would definitely be trying their Ayam Goreng variant of the Nasi Lemak pretty soon!

Apart from mains such as Nasi Lemak, Nyonya Assam Laksa and Nyonya Mee Siam, Baba Melaka serves a variety of desserts such as Baba Chendol (with or without Durian), Burbur Cha Cha and this Sago Gula Melaka which is priced pretty affordable at $1.80. Less the slightly mushy Sago, flavour-wise this really hit the mark as it comes with a pool of sweet and globby Gula Melaka hidden underneath all that coconut milk which gives the Sago pearls a rich flavour when you mix all of it together.

A seemingly new stall that serves a variety of Peranakan fare in BGAIN130 coffeeshop at Blk 130 Jurong Gateway Road. Served with a chicken drumstick, there is a slight nuttiness to the meat which also carries a little zestiness to lift the flavours just a bit. Chili (which was right under the chicken drumstick) was moderately spicy, giving a manageable kick of flavours as you grab a little of everything to fit into one spoonful. Thought that the achar mix was pretty decent — crunchy, fresh being tastefully sour to refresh the tastebuds. At a price of $5.50, this is definitely an affordable alternative to the shopping centre options when it comes to dining within the area near Jurong East MRT Station.
