Along our staple veg mlxg, we got a bowl of this new mushroom udon! It came in a chunky mushroom base, udon, cherry tomatoes, broccoli and seaweed. A pretty comforting bowl though I’d like the base to have a touch more seasoning. It’s perhaps better for sharing too as it gets a little flat in flavour after a while.

🤔: Ordered zhong la and the spice was exactly how zhong la should be like. The ingredients were well-coated and well-tossed, so there was no need for any further mixing. No complaints whatsoever other than the fact that it was too numbing, but it's ma la xiang guo so that is not even considered a legitimate complaint.

was a pretty good mala stir fry! xiao la was not spicy enough for us so we'd probably order zhong la next time. the mala was fragrant and flavourful and the environment was pretty chill. our only gripe was service was a little lukewarm and the location was not exactly the most convenient. however would totally come back for a good bowl of mala in the west!

If vegetarian dishes have a bland rep in your books, don't look past this store's meatless rendition of mala that holds its own. It's fresh, fragrant, spicy — these guys are definitely heavy-handed with the peppercorns. While a little pricer than usual at $3 for 100g, it's worth the money for a #MeatlessMonday ma la lunch. Make sure to add Noodles or Vermicelli to your bowl to soak up every bit of that mouth-watering sauce!

A gem hidden at a corner atop the little hill opposite Phoenix LRT. Though the ingredients were a little expensive, the mala gravy was of top notch. The 小辣 was enough to numb my tongue and lower lip though it was not spicy. Please choose beancurd skin! It has the softest texture amongst all the mala I have ever feasted on. True enough, the mala gravy was not oily at all too according to other reviews. However the Hokkien mee had got all my praises that lunch. It was so full of umami flavour and wok hey, despite not being cooked in the usual pork lard, with usual flavourful seafood and pork belly. At first I thought it must have been laden with msg to reach that level of umami. To my greatest relief and hence satisfaction, my mouth didn’t feel dry for a bit the entire afternoon. So I guess the Chef must be real good at his trade😊

Visited Green on Earth on the first day of CNY for their vegetarian ma la xiang guo and I was disappointed to see that their MLXG ingredients weren’t displayed. However, they were still serving MLXG, just that they’d standardised the sets for the CNY period. We ordered two small MLXG ($38) - one 小辣 and one 大辣. The staff are a bit blur, when serving the first bowl, we asked what spiciness this was and the guy just said spicy. This turned out to the the less spicy bowl, which was apparent when the other bowl arrived topped with tons of chillies. The 大辣 is really no joke, and I could feel my lips burning, my tongue getting number by the second, and my stomach churning, but it is so addictive and worth it! Do try a lower level of spiciness first if you’re not sure you can handle it.

I think the MLXG sets are more expensive than usual ($3 for 100g for all ingredients) due to CNY pricing, but they come with a good mix of ingredients - broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, bok choy, sea cucumber, shiitake mushroom, oyster mushroom, enoki mushroom, thick vermicelli, bean curd skin, lotus root, and mock meats abalone, prawn, pork rib and super ball. Also, can’t really complain that it’s more expensive since they actually open all throughout CNY even though many of those working on the day are Chinese. Thank you for sacrificing your holiday festivities for the rest of us :) As an additional note, if you’re a fan of mock meats you’ll probably really like their pork rib here.

The ambience is really nice, although it can get stuffy if it rains. Most of the tables are open air, but sheltered. You’ll feel close to nature while dining!

Overall, Green on Earth, though vegetarian, serves one of the best MLXG. It’s fragrant, spicy, and they don’t shy away from using peppercorns. Best to order some vermicelli so it can soak up all the yummy zhup!
