Beside the famous Seletar Sheng Mian stall, you would find another stall that would have its own queue some time as well.
226 Boneless Chicken Rice signage indicated that they have established since 1988. So they have a long history serving their signature boneless chicken rice here.
Choose from either steamed or roasted, the set served with a plate of oyster sauce vegetable.
My first bite on the chicken was immediately hit with the flavour of strong garlic taste there.
You can find old school fried fritter from this stall here that called the Huang Jin You Tiao 黄金油条.
They usually very busy at the stall making all the fried fritters, making them all on the spot upon orders; in small batches.
So there may be waiting time when there’s many orders coming in.
Firm texture for all the fried fritters such as the you tiao.
$3 or $4 Sheng Mian 生面! We like the noodle, soup and ingredients added. One of our usual lunch to-go places. The queue can get pretty long on the weekend. We waited for about 40 minutes.
Not all kopis are equal, and when you find a good one it's a keeper. Kopi-c kosong ping has just the right amount of sweetness and flavour. Block 226H Kebun Bahru market #01-11. Recommended!
Spotted a small dough at the side next to the sheng mian, and asked if i can have that. Hungry foodies always have sharp eyes 😂 #burpple #hawkerfood #localfood
Fresh handmade (on the spot), soon Kueh and yam cake. Appreciated the not too thick nor thin skin that didn't turn hard when it cooled down. Really popular on the weekends so do go early!
When both mum & I are home Saturday morning, rare these days, it's usually wet market shopping + breakfast - some of our favourites; fried carrot cake, selfmade + generous portion of eggs & chye poh (they do a mean black version as well, only available on weekdays) & chicken feet noodles with an extra order of dumpling soup, always get perfectly cooked noodles from this stall - for some old school goodness, go for the wanton noodles soup.
Perpetually long queues at this stall, and for good reason. Perfectly cooked noodles with amazing soup.
😪 Seeking comfort in warm fluffy claypot rice w tasty pork ribs and some hidden salted fish. (And of course I ordered a huge plate of vegetables to balance this out) #burpple #sghawker #claypotrice
Affordable bowl($3) of hand-torn mee hoon kuay, soup was delicious, with hints of ikan bilis and pork lard. The vegetable used was sweet potato leaf; an interesting twist! Prawn given was sweet and OMG the egg was cracked in at just the right moment: slightly flowy yolk-love the consistency! Pork used could have been less fatty. Nice meal for a rainy day💧But, I won't queue for 15 minutes though, not very worth the wait😂 Simple, nice meal though!
Today's the start of my summer internship and yay to exploring a new area - AMK! First meal here went to Teck Kee Cooked Food and it was a good heartwarming welcome! Soup was robust and flavorful with tender pork slices and livers. Sheng mian was nicely cooked as well, not lumpy or overly soft. At $3, it's worth the price and they sold out by 1.15pm! You can get the small at $3 and large at only $3.50.
This has been long overdue and I have decided to compile a collection of food stalls in hawker centres that deserves more recognition. Ever since the cafehopping scene has hit upon us, these hawkers have lost some of their shine in the spotlight. When they retire for good and there's no one to pass the recipes down to, it would be such a pity if we have not even tried their food once. I believed that if we do our bit, we can slowly but surely bring back the glory days of hawker food. Preserve the heritage, carry on the legacy.

[Kebun Baru Food Centre] Prepare to queue for at least 15 minutes for this. Recommended by my colleagues to try their dry version, the hand-pulled mian fen guo (mee-hoon-kway) is mixed with their homemade chili sauce and fried shallot oil. The usual ingredients in handmade noodles are inside such as ikan billis, minced pork and vegetables. So homely and so easy to eat as you can just use your spoon to scoop up the ingredients, without the need for using chopsticks. Pictured is the $4 portion.
Laksa with beef noodles? Sacrilegious! But it all works out pretty well actually, spicy laksa taste with beef stock goes surprisingly well. The soup is not the typical milky nonya laksa but savory and topped with generous amount of beef. Nice!
$5 Orh Neng with 6 oysters and ridiculous number of eggs. I'm not complaining. 😍😘
Stall 01-03, 俐發記.
My favourite kwap chap stall for years. I think this is slightly better than the famous Lao San which is just minutes away. No kway for me today as I'm having chicken wings later!Woo hoo!
Stall Number #01-20, 黄富鸭饭。Do come early on weekends as their paper-thin kway would be sold out at about 11am!
LOL. SOME of the zi char dishes for dinner just now. $200 in total for 15 pax. A very unassuming stall in a hawker centre but is one of the better zi char in Ang Mo Kio. Delicious!
