Smittenangel's Msia Eat List
I don't normally eat in shopping mall restaurants as the food is usually sub-par, but this little place has an extremely promising menu! The menu is full of comfort foods, suitable for both solo dining or groups. As it was breakfast time I ordered the hand rolled chee cheong fun, which had such smooth silky skin and was chock full of minced pork, chye poh and dried shrimp. Plus points for the generous serving of tasty prawn paste chilli as well. The CCF be a tad salty for some, but perfect for me as I prefer intense tastes. Definitely coming back to try the popular claypot loshufun (my usual pick but too heavy for my breakfast visit).

💡: located directly opposite h&m on ground floor
The slightly sour tangy red velvet pancakes are a good counterpoint to the sweet and heavy hokey pokey ice cream. Plating was pretty too. But I found the pancakes rather dry. Not cheap either! Maybe we should have ordered waffles instead but anyway there are so many other dessert cafes in the uptown area that I'd probably try next time.
Finally worth coming to the original now that the SG branch has shut down! I'm not a huge fan of pan mee or anchovies but I never say no to chilli in any form. I like the soup with beef balls and bean curd skin more than the noodles. Not busy when I visited around 1330h on a random Saturday. [Note: the chilli is not that spicy but kinda salty so don't overdo it]
Only available at VCR's bangsar location, this southern inspired dish has a nice mix of colours, tastes and textures. The heaviness of the chicken and waffles are well balanced by the refreshing basil leaves and pomegranate seeds. More pomegranate seeds would be good if anyone out there is listening ! I find their city location (a double storey shop house with loads of natural light) way more charming though. #vcrlovesyou #vcrbangsar
My must-have in kl. No porky taste at all in these delightfully fresh intestines, cooked to the perfect doneness to maintain a bouncy almost crunchy texture, and drowned in fragrant garlic chips.
Fail safe supper place in the city for those late night arrivals. Stuff your face with comforting clay pot 老鼠粉 and roast pork noodles. My Favourite dish is of course the crunchy nuggets of 猪肠, buried in garlic chips and haybee.
Still one of my favorites due to its charred exterior and fattiness. MYR27 for this 2 pax portion of char siew and siew cheong (you can also get smaller individual portions with rice). Well worth the longish drive to glenmarie... I think 🤔🤔🤔
I personally prefer their fried intestine porridge (MYR5.50) cos the saltiness of the intestine complements the plain porridge, but this 生鱼片粥 is something that we can no longer get in Singapore porridge stalls 😢 I think the sesame oil "dressing" at the Maxwell one is still nicer though (or WAS nicer since they are not allowed to sell this stuff anymore).
Inventive and refreshing. Some of the standouts-
*Foie gras, Japanese tomato
*Live oyster, caviar, Japanese orange and Tabasco jelly
* sashimi platter, soy sauce mousse
* yoghurt sphere dessert
Loooove this decadent thing but still not a fan of the coffee- too acidic (I have mine as a double macchiato).
I'm not a high tea person because the food is usually average. Since we were in the area we popped in for one of the most popular high teas in KL. Choice of tea (Darjeeling) or coffee only.
P/S Reservations a must on weekends, or you can try walking in around 4-430pm when people get fed up of eating tiny morsels of averageness.
Turns out this standard bearer is just average- taste is okay but no wok hei. Have to add pork lard separately (additional MYR0.70) and copious amounts of garlic and chilli paste to make it edible. [update Mar2018- Restoran Tiong in the same row is just as uninspired].
