Chef Peter Teo serves up awesome sushi, and authentic Japanese food!
Note that Kaiware is moving to Asia Square in June 2016.
Crispy prawn wrapped in sushi rice and salmon. The entire roll is then flooded with their special mayo sauce that is torched. Lastly a generous portion of fish roe to sum up the shiokness in the entire dish. I feel so good just eating this.
A long week of work calls for a meal that heals. If you work in the area, you're probably familiar with the super affordable, tasty rice bowls available here at lunch. At dinner, expect comforting dishes such as the classic Okonomiyaki ($8.80) and the Hanpen Cheese ($6.80), deep-fried fish cake stuffed with cheese, served with cod roe mayo (make sure they serve this hot!). What's nice is that they also do some really unexpected, elegant dishes like the Shime Saba — mackerel sashimi scorched with a blowtorch right before your eyes, served with lemon, mustard and soy sauce. Also go for the Maguro Tataki with ponzu jelly, a really nice play on contrasting flavours, and by then, you'd have forgotten about the insane week you've had.
Dining at Rocku is a lot of fun, with its upbeat, grungy ambience that's perfect for barbequeing some meat and downing a few beers with your friends. Certainly catering to meat-lovers, the menu features premium cuts such as Wagyu beef brisket, Australian sirloin and short ribs. There are also live bands playing from Wed to Sat! Considering it's value at $29.90++, this buffet shouldn't be missed. Additional $3++ on Weekends, eve of PH & PH (100mins). Photo by Kelvin Lim.

Mostly under $20 (Really value for money right!), Sumiya's lunch sets like the simmered conger eel rice bowl set which I ordered came with pickles, chawanmushi, salad, miso soup and dessert (mochi). The eel was well-flavoured, slightly sweet and soft. The Mix Bara Kaisen Don and Chicken Teriyaki Don which my friends ordered were also pretty good!
Oh do make a reservation to avoid disappointment as it was close to full house when we reached at around 12.45pm!
Although some told me that this wasn't as nice as they expected, I enjoyed it a lot. The ramen was not too crispy and maintained enough chewiness. The chicken was well-fried as well and very succulent.
Fresh sushi rolls made to order. A variety of interesting flavours, with choices of dipping sauces to complement. I love salmon tataki so naturally that was my favourite. Was quite pricey though.
The beef was so good that I enjoyed it with and without dipping the sauce. I like the presentation of the dish. Generous amount of sauce set aside in a sauce dish. Fish roes, scallions and fried onions placed in a corner so I could put as much/little of what I want. Love! 😍
Fancy some Penguin's Lemon Tart and Fresh Cream ($10) this Thursday? Even though we are not near the weekends yet, it's okay to pamper yourself and indulge a little once in awhile. If you like your lemon tart to be sour, this will not disappoint as its like a jolt of wake-up call to your body. Maybe that's how Spider-Man feels whenever his spider sense is tingling?
Very generous with their portion of foie gras and the beef was tender. Would be even better if it comes with the onsen egg in this bowl.
Sushi rice ball topped with a slice of marbled wagyu beef glazed with a coat of bulchoba sauce and flame grill to perfection.
