There are quite a few Teppei Syukudo outlets around, but only the ION outlet offers the flexible customizability of salad and rice and various sizes with a variety of options from fish, toppings and condiments. Originally at $15.80, the medium size comes with four different types of fish (went with salmon, tuna, baby scallops and yellow tail) while we added Mentaiko seasoning at $0.80. Quite a generous bowl with quality cuts of marinated fish which was pretty savoury with a umami touch by the seasoning. Each bowl comes with special sauce, ikura, wasabi, goma etc; a pretty good option to spoil yourself with if you are around Orchard.
The generous portion of the happily-sized and uber-fresh seafood cubes will leave you in a state of suspended sashimi bliss and the pearly rice-to-seafood ratio was magical. Elsewhere, the marinate was a glorious cross between Teppei Syokudo's legendary (albeit occasionally eagerly salty) one and sweet teriyaki sauce. Priced at only $12.80, this astonishing marvel is destined for greatness. 4.5/5
Conveniently located in the heart of Jalan Besar on Maude road, Wan He Lou is a humble looking Chinese restaurant serving an array of seafood dishes at down to earth prices.
One of the must try dishes is the signature Lobster porridge, priced at $29.90 for 2-3 person serving or $39.90 for large that serve up to 5 person. The lobster broth is robust and full of natural flavours, and the meat is luxuriously tender and flesh.
This wasn't part of my Omakase set (I chose to have the Wagyu Beef with Black Truffle bowl instead) but it looked so tempting I couldn't help cast sidelong greedy glances at it anyway 👀
Sis @hungrybaker had the Salmon Don ($12) which came with fresh sashimi, lightly seared sashimi and ikura, served with housemade spicy mayonnaise and yakiniku sauce. Top up $2 for a miso soup, side salad and green tea. However, I must say service here needs to be improved. Takes forever to get service staff to notice us despite the fact that there were only three tables occupied.
