Plenty of mookata buffets in Golden Mile Complex but New Udon Thai Food is consistently crowded. Featuring a giant platter of prawns, marinated pork and chicken, sausages, squid assorted veg and glass noodles, this was a pretty generous serving just about right for two. They’ve also got their own thick chilli sauce made in-house that reminds me of a slightly funky gochujang.

Tucked away in the second floor of Golden Mile Complex, this Thai eatery features an extensive menu and generous portions. The classic basil pork here was packed with flavour, but chilli wimps should stay far away (or ask for less heat). Even the added fried egg was perfect, crisp around the edges but retaining that oozy yolk center.

For a simple but satisfying lunch, consider Noodle Thai Thai Kitchen. Their revamped lunch menu features their signature jade noodles with either basil pork or their double grilled chicken. The chicken is grilled with a charred, sweet glaze, but if you’re looking for a more savoury option, go for the basil pork. The star here however is the springy, QQ noodles! Add a dash of their chilli flakes for some intense heat, but just a dash cause I almost burnt my tongue off. 😝

Another one of our favourites that night was this indulgent version of phad Thai that comes with lobster! There was quite a bit of moist lobster meat in there and the phad Thai itself was tasty and had a nice nutty profile, which I’d expect from a good phad Thai. This looked so good, the table beside us ordered one after seeing it hit our table. 😂 Slightly pricy, but good for a #treatyoself moment, and even if you’re not in a mood to splurge, I’m sure their normal phad Thai is just as tasty.

Soi Thai Soi Nice has a new branch in JEM and with that, a new menu across all of their three outlets. Seafood fans will love this; slightly ridiculous, over-the-top wok of seafood that comes with everything from lobster, soft shell crabs, scallops, prawns and so much more! Of course, it isn’t a tom yum hotpot without instant noodles. Hidden under all that seafood is an abundance of noodles (not the Mama kind though). The tom yum itself isn’t the spicy kind, more of a slightly tangy, creamy broth, so even if you’re not hot about heat, this should be acceptable. Definitely a crowd pleaser. 👅💦

Always worth the trek down to Far East, Kra Pow’s Drunken Noodles has a special place in my heart. Immensely addictive, the slick rice noodles takes on an intense heat and umami. Contrary to its name, there’s no alcohol cooked into this. It gets its name because apparently this is a common comfort dish when you’re nursing a hangover.

First time trying this and hot damn, I’m convinced! Always felt that Thai wanton mee seems kinda boring and tasteless but this was already tasty from the get-go. Well seasoned, QQ noodles with a myriad of ingredients; tender char siew, fried and boiled wanton and their own homemade Thai sausages (think a softer version of lup cheong). Will definitely be making return trips! 🙌

This ain’t your usual Phad Thai! Instead of noodles, this version comes with copious amounts of egg instead. This reminded me pleasantly of super tasty fried carrot cake and plus points for this if you love pork lard (cause there’s lots and lots of that fried right in). Eat this with rice or piled onto the accompanying fried wanton skins though it’s a lot easier just crushing it into the dish.

My fav papaya salad – quite pricy until I realized it came with a good handful of prawns (hidden beneath it all). Refreshing and packed a spicy punch and that’s the way I like it. I do wish they would include an option without the prawns at a cheaper price, I really just want the salad. 😂

We got half of their grilled chicken which came with a special spicy sauce. The grilled chicken was nubbad but nothing to write home about, but the sauce was pretty shiok! A little bit sweet, with a latent heat that catches up with you.🔥 Kinda reminds me of having ayam penyet with the crazy chilli that you try to temper it down with the kicap manis.

This was an appetizer that we all enjoyed (though we expected something more like satay). The larb (minced pork) is stuffed into the skins and deep-fried, making for addictive fingers of crispy, meaty packages that’s great with accompanying sweet and sour sauce.

A new Thai spot specializing in authentic Thai + Issan cuisine just opened along South Bridge Road! Un-Yang-Kor-Dai is a pretty and comfortable, unlike your usual no frills Thai eateries that you might be used to (though their prices matches their setting).

A quick Google search on Issan cuisine reveals that it frequently features sticky rice (they use gultinous brown rice here), strong spices, a love for Laap, grilled chicken and Som Tam. Pictured here is their hot and sour soup with pork cartilage ribs. Strong spices indeed! Dried chilli and chilli padi is generously applied and you can spot all the chilli seeds at the bottom of the bowl!🔥A very appetizing soup (much like a clear tom yum), the pork was extremely tender too.
