One of the best things that came out from this pandemic, was the time and opportunity to rediscover local traditional food that I used to enjoy as a kid!๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

๐˜ผ๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™†๐™ช ๐™†๐™ช๐™š๐™ (Literally translated as ๐™๐™š๐™™ ๐™๐™ช๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ก๐™š ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ ๐™š ๐Ÿขโค๏ธ) symbolizes Prosperity, Longevity and Wealth, and is NOT made out of turtles. LOLS~~

It is a small round or oval-shaped Chinese pastry with soft, sticky glutinous rice flour skin traditionally wrapped around a sweet filling of Mung Bean Paste or Sugared Peanuts ๐Ÿฅœ, and molded to resemble a turtle shell and presented on a square piece of banana leaf. These days, they come in all sorts of colours and fillings ๐ŸŒˆ, but it's rare to come across a perfectly thin yet chewy skin with just the right amount of filling. @jixiangconfectionery has gotten this done pat, and I was elated at how all the flavours came together so perfectly without overwhelming the tastebuds.

Definitely worth a stop if you're cafรฉ hopping in the Duxton or Everton Park area! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

On rainy days like these, having warm ๐˜ฝ๐™ช๐™ฉ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง ๐™‰๐™–๐™–๐™ฃ to soak up that deliciously savoury Yogurt ๐Ÿฅ› and Tomato-based ๐Ÿ… ๐˜ฝ๐™ช๐™ฉ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง ๐˜พ๐™๐™ž๐™˜๐™ ๐™š๐™ฃ sauce is one of those guilty pleasures of mine that make me incredibly happy.

Delightfully flavourful and elevated with strong spices, Indian food is one of my weak spots, and I'm not just talking about the quintessential ๐™๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™ž ๐™‹๐™ง๐™–๐™ฉ๐™– or ๐™๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™ž ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ž (depending on which side of the Causeway you're on. ๐Ÿ˜†) ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

Stewed herbal duck and heavenly soft fish maw, a rare gem in Singapore these days. The vegetables were a little bitter, but that soft, flavourful duck more than made up for it. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!

For those looking to venture into the flavourful world of fermented prawn paste, this is a great starting point. Coated in a super crispy batter, the wings exude the unmistakable fragrance of prawn paste, especially when served piping hot from the fryer.๐Ÿ˜‹โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

For ่™พ้…ฑ้ธก aficionados like me, you may find the flavour to be on the lighter side. Personally, I would drench them in marinade as much as possible, but then again, some may find the flavour too overwhelming. Like I said, great for people who like the taste of prawn paste, but probably not so much of a kick for those who want the authentic power-packed fermented goodness on your tastebuds. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฃ

Generously stuffed with minced pork and your choice of seafood, this ๐™๐™š๐™ค๐™˜๐™๐™š๐™ฌ ๐™ˆ๐™š๐™–๐™ฉ ๐™‹๐™ช๐™›๐™› is bigger than the average ones you find at the Pasar Malams (In pre-Covid times. ๐Ÿ˜”) My personal favourite is Octopus ๐Ÿ™, lending a nice chewy texture juxtaposed against the juicy ground pork. You can tell that @teochew_meat_puffs_ definitely makes their puffs with lots of love๐Ÿ˜˜โฃ๏ธ

The ็‰›่…ฑ (Beef Shank) had lots of tendons in it, which I LOVE! ๐Ÿ˜ Paired with sweet chilli sauce on the side, these would have been perfect had they not been cut so thickly, which made it quite tough to chew on.

On the rare occasions that I do crave for Chinese food, Xiao Long Bao (Chinese Soup Dumplings) is ALWAYS my holy grail. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿฅข๐ŸฅŸ I mean, who could resist that juicy packet of meat bursting with flavourful juices, encased in a smooth hand-made wrapper and lightly flavoured with a dipping of vinegar and ginger? ๐Ÿ˜

Although these XLB by ไธœ่ฎฐๆ‹‰้ขๅฐ็ฌผๅŒ… were pretty affordable compared to my fave @dintaifungsg XLB, I can't say that it was good enough for me to return again... The skin was a little too thick for my liking, and perhaps I'm spoiled by DTF, but these babies didn't ooze as much juice as I had expected LOL. ๐Ÿ™Š

This Singaporean "winter" โ˜ƒ๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ (Yes it's true!!!), comfort is a pot of steaming hot claypot rice ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ”ฅ, complete with smoky charred bits at the bottom. Super yummers paired with some Bak Kut Teh! ๐Ÿ˜โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

One of my fave congee places, done the traditional Cantonese way. Simple, yet incredibly delicious. (And I usually don't even like porridge) ๐Ÿ˜ Uncle cooks every bowl customised to your order, and even won an award for his traditional porridge style! ๐Ÿ˜โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Parents love the newest stall selling Taiwanese delights such as steamed egg, minced pork and fish. Pot stickers from the fish soup stall are ok, skin is a little too thick for our liking. But overall, everything here is value for $$$!
