From the separate counter where you get all the mini-sized bakes such as the Mini Croissants and bite-sized Cheesecakes. Not sure if they have been serving these for quite some time, but definitely my first time noticing them. Almost quite identical to their mini croissants in terms of flavour, the mini Kouign Orange is immensely buttery and sugary sweet, though the bread is more biscuit-y in texture for this is a smaller-sized Kouign Amann. Liked how they included the little cubes of candied orange pulp which gives it a zesty citric burst of flavours when you chew on them. Despite the estimated 3 to 4 pieces you would get for 100 grams, the actual quantity for 100 grams seemed to be a little more than 7 pieces, which is great to share if you are looking for a small bite without stuffing yourself silly with a snack like this.
Looks can deceive.
What attracted me initially about this bread was the price . At 1 dollar - this was the cheapest item I could get at Johann bakery if I wanted a small snack.
Now this has become my personal Favourite from Johann. The bread is slightly crusty ( when just out of the oven ) and pillow-y spongy and chewy. The corn bits add that little burst of flavour in and throughout the bread.
It's a bread texture that I have never experienced before ( and as a bread lover - I have tasted a lot of breads from various bakeries ) - almost like a cross breed between a baguette and a croissant sans the " toughness " of the baguette and the greasiness of the croissant.
Try it - it will revolutionise the way you think bread can taste - especially when it's fresh from the oven ( they are typically out at 9am).
Japanese-Western mixed. Don't be fooled by this looks small portion tonkatsu sandwich. It's filling! And, yummy! Juicy and tender.
Remember to try their selection of dessert cakes too.
Knot's Macaroni & Cheese | $9.90, paired with a cup of Pearl of the Orient (Jasmine Green Tea with Rose Petals) | $6.20《2/5 ⭐️》— The Mac & Cheese got a little "gelat" with every bite, and was a tad too oily for me towards the base. I also decided to order an additional Mushroom Soup | $5.90, from their menu to complement it with the garlic bread that came with the Mac & Cheese. Bad decision. The soup tasted very much like a bowl of mushroom soup infused with coconut milk (?), which I didn't really fancy. Nevertheless, totally love the ambience of this cafe! Really quiet and quaint, and oh, if you love flowers, this is the place for you. 🌼🌸
