My dad and I had breakfast at this popular guay jub joint in Yaowarat during our recent Bangkok trip. We each got the standard Roll Noodles Soup, which came with crispy pork, sliced pork, minced pork, pork offals and tongue. The peppery broth was really comforting without being too overwhelming. The rice rolls were smooth and the pork ingredients were all fresh, yummy, and the offals were well cleaned too! To round up the meal, we got a plate of Deep Fried Crispy Pork to share. The skin was really crispy, while the meat was lean yet juicy. You can choose to enjoy the crispy pork on its own with the sauce or dip it into the soup to soak up the broth.
Our very first meal in Bali was at Warung Babi Guling Pak Malen, a popular spot in Seminyak for Nasi Babi Guling. Their signature dish comes with pork satay, lean sliced pork, a piece of crisp skin, pork skin cracker and other different pork parts, with lawar (vegetables cooked in herbs, spices and coconut milk), rice, and sambal. I must say this was really quite enjoyable, especially when everything is mixed so all the different flavours come together! The crisp skin was thick and delicious, and the sambal was quite fiery too! Overall, a cheap and good makan option in Bali!
Our first meal in Bangkok was at Pe Aor, where I had this comforting bowl of tom yum soup with prawn, fish, squid, marinated pork and noodles (120 Baht). The soup is really shiok - I like how robust and creamy it was! You can choose your preferred type of noodles, like MAMA and rice vermicelli. We also tried some of their sides like Fried Chicken Wings (50 Baht), which were yummy too!
This was one of the makan places I was most looking forward to prior to my Bangkok trip, because I had heard so much about their 50-year-old soup! After trying their beef noodle soup yesterday, here are my thoughts.
The broth had a nice, clean beefy flavour that was comforting, but I was expecting a more robust and richer broth. The beef parts (beef slices, beef balls, beef tendon etc) were really good though - they were tender and yummy! Overall for me, I would say it still a pretty solid bowl but those expecting a rich broth might be slightly disappointed.

Lebuh Kimberley (Kimberley Street) is a famous street in Georgetown, Penang for its delicious choices of local food & the stall selling kway chap is probably the most popular among patrons.
Having tried it myself, i can see why they are so popular. The duck kway chap here (served with all the ingredients in the bowl unlike our Singapore version) is so yummy.; the soup is very flavourful & they are also very generous with the ingredients (you get sliced duck meat, pig innards & braised egg etc). 😋
A must try breakfast spot if you are in bkk. Its quite out of the way but the visit is well worth it. The breakfast style is a mixture of thai chinese & western.
