The eponymous @dumplings.ru does justice to its namesake with their signature homemade dumplings, and the perfect way to try them all is the Combo Platter. Besides traditional dumplings, what’s on this plate are their unique creations such as the Black Bull(beef), Minty Ram(lamb), Golden Hen(chicken), salmon dumplings, Western 8ights(beef + chicken) and Siberian 8ights(beef + pork), but my favourire has to be the Wild Hog – a sausage-y pork dumpling packing bags of savoury flavour.

It’s great to see less familiar but still very much traditional dishes on this Russian restaurant’s menu. For the more adventurous diners, you won’t regret trying their chicken jelly terrine. As weird as it may sound, the tender shredded chicken ensconced in wobbly, effervescent jelly was light and clean on the palate, even more so with a healthy squeeze of lemon.

A popular appetiser in most Scandinavian and Eastern European countries, a good salted herring(like this one) is toothsome, meaty and contains the right balance of saltiness, sweetness and acid. Accompany it with many shots of vodka.

You can really taste the heartfelt, homecooked flavour in @dumplings.ru Ukrainian borsh soup. A tart and tangy combination of beetroot and tomato, swimming with pork and vegetable bits, this is comforting soul food at its most honest.
