Sweet Pancake ($24)

Checking out the newest Common Man Coffee with their outlet exclusive Sourdough Pancakes which come in both sweet and savoury.
Sweet Pancake ($24) is a decadent one complete with chocolate almond ganache, almond praline, vanilla bean ice cream and zesty citrus marmalade. Surprisingly, between the duo I prefer the Savoury ($24). Dense diner-style pancakes, it is accompanied with crispy bacon, Kampong fried egg, maple syrup and seasoned creamy butter.

Carolina Pulled Pork Croissant ($19)

The crowd favourite was the Carolina Pulled Pork Croissant ($19)! Sandwiched between their crispy butter croissant is a generous amount of well-marinated pulled pork, tomato slice, lettuce & cherry tomato. So so good!

Uova in Purgatorio
Really enjoyed how rustic this dish felt — nothing is more comforting than having baked eggs in Shashouka-style, but the Uova in Purgatorio stands out from the other Shashouka-style dishes we have had for a simple reason; the way that the toasts go hand-in-hand with the baked eggs. Giving the Shakshouka-style Baked Eggs a good mix, the baked eggs come with a good contrast of flavors — the bright tang of the tomato used in the Arrabiata against the slight herb-ish zing from the Pesto, the baked eggs provide a richness to the various elements when mixed together. We particularly enjoyed how the tomatoes in the dish came with a soft bite without feeling particularly squishy, providing the baked eggs with a myriad of textures alongside the roasted bell peppers. Dipping the sourdough toast into the baked eggs, we absolutely loved how the exterior of the toast remains crusty even despite being soaked in all of that tangy and zippy goodness, whilst also providing a good chew — a plus point considering how we have had some Shashouka-style baked egg dishes that came with toasts that turn limp after absorbing the sauces. A very well-thought and put-together dish that was simple yet wholesome, but showcasing knowledge and understanding of the various elements that come together which leaves an impression.

Rosie Mascarpone ($16)
We had the Rosie Mascarpone ($16) which totally blew my mind in terms of the flavour combination and texture. The rosemary sourdough toast had a nice tang and texture to it, pairing well with the generous spread of housemade mascarpone topped with roasted pistachios and rose petals. The finishing touch of raw honey gives it a nice overall sweetness without being cloyingly sweet. It was such an enjoyable toast experience that I am thinking of replicating it at home with the same sourdough toast.

Eggstatic Set [$8]
Can’t get over the brioche sandwiches & super solid (+ huge) cups of hot chocolate from Lowef! Been back a few times to this cozy spot and it always guarantees a satisfying meal with their fluffy, creamy scrambled eggs and perfectly toasted brioche pullman that’s crisp outside and buttery soft inside.

The Eggstatic Set comes with an Eggstatic Brioche ($5.50) that you can top up with several ingredients like Bacon ($2) and Honey Baked Ham ($1), and coffee/tea/milk/juice, or other drinks with an additional $2. I topped up for a cup of their Cocoa No. 1 hot chocolate that I absolutely enjoyed. It’s just really fab and honest food that you can tell they’ve put lots of love into! Can’t wait to try the other items on the menu.

Appenzeller Cheese Toast
The Appenzeller Cheese Toast was actually one of the most impressive cheese toasts I had in recent times. Straying away from the usual grilled cheese sandwich shenanigans that most cafes attempt to serve up these days, the Appenzeller Cheese carries a strong, savoury note that actually is way more manageable than it smells, while the walnuts chopped walnuts add an earthy crunch that somewhat provides a slight nuttiness that compliments that cheesiness. I am assuming that the Pan De Mie is presumably the bread that is used for the Appenzeller Cheese Toast — liked how the bread is soft yet firm structurally; fluffy and light but being adequately dense with a very slight sweetness that compliments the intensity of the cheese here.

Salmon Rosti ($22)
The Norwegian salmon was soft, moist, and pink throughout. Enjoyed the texture but found it to have a mild fishy aroma. It came atop a rosti that was ultra crisp but consequently a tad dry, and a generous serving of fresh watercress and rocket salad. Enjoyed the pairing with nutty crunchy pistachio, juicy pops of pomegranate, and refreshing citrus mint mayo.

Steep’s Breakfast ($19)
We’ll both go for the Steep’s Breakfast ($19), which comes loaded with eggs of your choice, sausages, turkey bacon, avocado, grilled tomato and wonderfully crispy tater tots. The perfect way to start the weekend.

Mac & cheese ($15.80)

It is one of the best cafes' Mac & cheese I've tasted! The sauce was rich but not cloying, and the macaroni was addictively chewy. The top of the dish was also seared to provide a smokey dimension to the dish. All I could ask for would be bacon instead of ham.

Clams in white wine sauce ($14.80)

The clams were sizable and juicy and went well with the garlicky white wine sauce. Note that the sauce has a noticeably bitter aftertaste though.

Breakfast Burger ($20)
Been wanting to visit The Brewing Ground ever since I saw numerous positive reviews on their Breakfast Burger, and I must say I wasn’t disappointed after trying it! It really lives up to its name with its breakfast must-haves, from its well-toasted brioche bun to the soft and fluffy scrambled eggs, and the savoury sausage patty. What really made the burger a standout brunch dish were the toppings of caramelised onions, cheddar and ketchup-mayo that really worked harmoniously together! We liked the hash brown on the side too; so crispy and not too oily!

Chilli Crab Shakshuka ($16)
A spicy tomato puree base is cooked with chunks of crab meat, topped with an onsen egg and comes with halved fried mantous.

The base initially tastes on the sweet side, but the spiciness kicks in after a while and lingers for a pretty long time. The chunks of crab meat are visible and add a different form of sweetness to the dish. Mixing in the onsen egg gives you added creaminess as you dunk each slice of mantou in.

Burrata French Toast ($22)
This beautiful burrata toast because it is worth the hype! This is one of my favorite rendition of thick toast as it’s both sweet and savory, the caramelised brioche toast with fluffy buttery inside reminds me of shibuya honey thick toast, topped with the fresh burrata which texture acts like a light savory spread balancing the sweetness and your dose of meat from the maple-glazed bacon is just yums!
