Singaporeans love long queues right? We waited 15-20min for this piping hot bowl of goodness! The regular lor mee is $3 but we added $1 for additional shark nuggets! (Do note that the regular one also has shark nuggets) The nuggets are essentially shark meat coated in batter and fried. While interesting, the nuggets didn’t taste that special to me! The lor mee itself was good though - starchy, vinegary gravy and yellow noodles that don’t contain that usual weird bicarbonate taste. So thumbs up from me!

A lot of mee turn me off as I find their gravy starchy and cloying. 178 Lor Mee is one of the good ones.

The gravy was thick and filled with a nice robust flavour. It was not starchy at all, and it paired well with the chilli and ginger. But of course the star is their secret ingredient, the superbly fried shark meat fritters that left me wanting more as I crunched down on each one.

heard highly raved reviews abt this lor mee at Tiong Bahru market so we had to make our way there ourselves to try it 😋 This whole bowl with huge chunks of shark fritters only cost me $4!! 😱 (+ 0.6 for egg) but still omg so worth!!! But that said, shark meat probably ain’t for me... i wasn’t too big of a fan of the collagen-y texture but my other friends loved it so it’s really up to your own personal preference.

So this stall kinda differentiates itself from your usual lor mee stalls that have fried fish but this has fried shark nuggets??? The shark meat is a lot firmer and meatier compared to the usual fish and the batter was rly nicely seasoned (almost like a fish&chips batter) + super crunchy & addictive. Might ask the aunty for a bag of it the next time I eat here

I always add a spoonful of the chopped garlic and mix into the gravy and I feel it transforms the dish unless you don’t like garlic then i’m sorry we can’t be friends. I wish their gravy was abit less gelatinous but the noodles and the condiments more than made up for it. The queue for this stall seem to be perpetually long so come early!!

I added the shark nuggets and egg. The usual lor mee soup is reduced to just gravy and the overall taste is good! I’m not sure if it’s worth the queue though

The one thing I love abt this stall is the take-as-much-as-u-want garlic. I wasn’t a Lor Mee fan until I came across this many years ago. Be prepared to queue. It’s long and never ending. But the light at the end of the tunnel was a beautiful garlicky bowl of thick noodles. The garlic made the quite ordinary thick gravy fabulous. And I loved biting into the fried fish topped with fresh garlic. Must add eggs.
