Malaysian style kind of broth - where it’s more herbal and less peppery. Their soup is not bad though can be a bit more savoury. The tenderloins are a bit tough to bite too.

I think Singaporeans tend to like the SG-style white pepper Bakuteh more than the Malaysian style black herbal-ish soup...right??
Cause I think I kinda like white soup one more 😄

Usually a bigger supporter of the white peppery version, I decided to give this Herbal KL version a shot.

The broth was sweeter than I'm used to but tasted alright and the different cuts of pork used were decent. I think I'm just an ardent fan of the peppery version 😐

We did however, really like some of the set menu items like the Hong Zhao Chicken and the Steam Egg sides.

So maybe worth a try if you're keen on giving the the herbal version of BKT a go but I'd still go for the cheaper and more satisfying classing SG version 😛

** My kind of brunch to kick start the weekend! A second Malaysian style bak kut teh that I’ve tried in Sg. I like that a mini stove is available on each table and the claypot is placed on the stove to boil when served, keeping the soup piping hot all the time. I like the soup here but wish that they were more generous with the pork ribs.
