"What's nice to eat at The Terrace?"
"Nothing."
Sad to say, it's quite true. I won't say that the food is terrible, but they can't be more normal. And it doesn't help when all the stalls and the atmosphere look so lifeless and old. The only thing that stood out the most is probably the Vietnamese stall which draws a consistent queue, but it's also weird because they also display veges/meat like a mixed vege rice stall when they're located just beside a legit Chinese mixed vege rice stall. Ordered their prawn and mango salad ($2.50) anyway, sweet and tangy but it was voluminised by lettuce instead.
The next interesting thing we saw was the Hongkong roasted delights stall selling "lala and fish white beehoon" ($4). But it was actually made like a fish beehoon soup and not the stir-fried version π Nonetheless, the seafood was fresh and the soup is not bland.
The Terrace definitely needs an upgrade to be worthy of their own name.
Sometimes when I feel like eating something light and healthy, the first thing that comes to my mind is this Prawn and Mango Salad from the Vietnamese Stall in The Terrace.
Prawns, shredded green mango, shredded carrot, lettuce, peppermint leaves, peanut, shallots. Refreshing isn't it! If you are worried that the green mango might be too sour, fret not. You can always dip it with some fish sauce at the bottom of the salad.
Guess what, it's only $2.50 by the way!
The biggest motivation for me to travel all the way to The Terrace has definitely gotta be this Vietnamese Food Stall!!
Caught this Today's Special dish on a Wednesday afternoon. Priced at $4.20, it was a huge bowl of stir fried noodles (thick bee hoon alike), topped with long grilled pork strips, lettuce, spring onion, shredded carrot and chili bits. Not to forget the some peanut and shallots sprinkled on top.
I like how juicy the pork strips were, the variety of ingredients and just how fragrant the dish was with the addition of fish sauce, that also prevented the noodles from being too dry.
Since it's not on the main menu, I hope you will be as lucky as me to catch it next time!
Another colleague said: "eh you also ordered dessert ah? What cake is that?" πππ Not sure what the Vietnamese name for the dishes are: had tofu and Pork Belly stir fry. Some furry gourd with bean sprout. Plus this slice of 'cake' that has minced pork with a few strands of vermicelli in it. π
Not Makcik cook, but young entrepreneurial lady. This is Nasi Ayam Goreng. It's a plate of Chicken Rice (with chicken pieces too lah) that is goreng with the usual Nasi Goreng tri-colour frozen veg and 'kicap hitam' on high octane fire wok. If you order 'pedas' it is fried with the cili padi. Telur goreng is optional.
Affordable and yummy lunch option at NUS! The fish is soft on the inside, really good. Swap the pasta for their homemade olive rice, top it with an egg - a definite food-coma afternoon that's totally worth it :)
It's Salted Veg with Pork Belly from the Vietnamese stall at the Computing/Business Canteen in NUS. Very addictive, pricey stall too.
$1 naan $2.90 tandoori chicken & butter chicken gravy Dunno how he got $4, but owner is quite nice as I'm 50cent short of change and his ezlink machine doesn't accept FlashPay ezlink card. Oops. Naan is too thick for my liking, chicken is tender enough. Edible but can be a tad cheaper for canteen food prices.
$2 Mee siam in school. So yummy and surprisingly one of the best ones I ever had! πππ
Sam gye gang (ginseng chicken soup) @ NUS - science canteen
Amazing stuff for science canteen. Wasn't expecting it to taste good at all tbh. Total snob, i know and I'm ashamed. This needs probably a dash more salt but other than that no complains, none whatsoever! Chicken was a little dry but still quite satisfyingly tender. Even the kimchi was not bad. Beats the one korean place medical center hands down.
Gotta have me somemore next time!
Situated in the NUS business/computing canteen, it's a daily favorite for students!
