If you are looking for some gelato shop in Marine Parade neighbourhood, you now has the option!

Picolo Gelato is relatively a small shop with a few seats available. They may not have a very extensive range of flavours on display, but they definitely have a good choices to get.

For some creamy and milky taste of gelato, go for this one. Smooth and not too sticky, easy to eat.

Visited the new Picolo Gelato at 81 Marine Parade Central; the same block used to house the now-defunct Maple & Market when they had previously relocated from their original premises at 34 Cassia Crescent. The hole-in-the-wall ice-cream shop isn’t particularly big; it takes up a space that is half of a typical HDB shophouse unit, and only has three tables for dine-in within the unit itself — there is, however, a four-seater that is located outside of the shop. The space is simply-decked with the furnishing and fittings being more functional in nature — the signages within the shop and on the signboard above the entrance are interestingly hand-painted however.

While the waffles here are crisp, they weren’t exactly the most fragrant here — perhaps intentionally done so since it is to be paired with ice-cream and could have been a deliberate attempt to control the level of sweetness of the entire dish; that being said, it wasn’t quite one that really went with our preferences. That being said, it does come with a salted caramel drizzle around the sides by default; does somewhat compensate for the lack of fragrance. Between the two scoops of gelato with have opted for, the clear winner would be the Hokkaido Banana Milk — a very familiar flavour that one can say is pretty reminiscent of the Dutch Lady’s Banana Milk that I am especially fond of as a child (but banned from my parents to have it often 😅) without being particularly sweet. The Flowery Oolong was however a wee bit too milky for our liking; pretty faint tea notes whilst the floral aspect wasn’t distinct as well. Both scoops of ice-cream were pretty smooth and creamy though.

Whilst being early in its operations, Picolo Gelato does churn out some pretty interesting flavours that sets them apart from the countless uninspiring ice-cream/gelato parlours that have opened all over Singapore of the late. That being said, there are definitely some room for improvement when it comes to their offerings — would have enjoyed them a little better if the waffles and the Flowery Oolong gelato has a punchier note to them. While there are many cafes situated along the East Coast Road corridor, Picolo Gelato does make as an easier option closer by to those residing along the Marine Parade Central and Marine Drive for a sweet treat without venturing too far away.
