During CNY, we eat 汤圆 to symbolize reunion. And here at Raohe Night Market at Taipei, they serve this glutinous rice dumpling that's cold and hot at the same time.
🔸
The dumplings were served piping hot on a bowl filled with ice (like our ice kachang). Be sure to eat it quickly while the skin is still soft and chewy, because the ice would harden the glutinous balls over time. When you're done with the rice dumplings, pour in a generous amount of osmanthus honey and finish up the ice cold dessert, a refreshing end to this dish.

Broth is so rich w tcm herbs...best to drink when the weather is chilly and yesh do order with their lu ruo fan :)
The dough is very crunchy and thin. The generously sprinkled sesame seeds adds an extra crunch.
The filling was so generous! With only 1 bite, i reached the pork filling already. Meat was juicy and the peppery taste is on point. Filling was not too salty as well. Its a great balance.
It serves a type of Baked Pepper Bun (NT$50, SGD$2.30, USD$1.60) that originated from the Fuzhou region of China.
The secret of its success is the rich and juicy filling of its buns, made of fresh pork, marinated in a special sauce concocted using a secret recipe.

😎
Stinky Tofu is one of Taiwan's most popular snack. It's a form of fermented tofu that's made by soaking fresh tofu in a brine of fermented milk, meat, or vegetables. It's usually served deep fried and often hailed as the blue cheese of tofu. 😂
Had mine in the form of fries served with shreds of carrots and cabbage then showered with cheese sauce. 🍟🧀🍟 Personally, didn't like the taste but some find it pretty good. Do try it and see you find it.😂😂😂 #handsinframe #foodintheair #myhungryhead
Japanese rolled omelette with corn and bits of lobster flesh tucked within its folds, topped with Kewpie, seaweed sprinkles and bonito flakes. Be prepared for a long wait for this!
We spotted locals having bowls of these and knew we had to give it a try. Looks plain, and it literally is soup + rice noodles with pepper & spring onions, but it is really homey & light. Loved the broth cooked with radish, bean curd and pork ribs. A good change from the meat-heavy dishes we've been having.
When you're desperate for veggies after countless meat-only meals, that even radish will do! This was addictive though, soft but still sweet radish drenched in an oyster sauce mixture.
We went back to Raohe for more of this goodness! This time, getting a bun each. It was still awesome, but the first time was better. Highly recommend that you go as the store is just opening (around 4.30-5pm) because that's when the buns are baked to perfection, after that first batch, rest seem like they're rushed through the baking process & don't come out as golden brown or crispy & chewy.
Don't make the same mistake as I did, combing the aisles of Raohe Night Market multiple times in search of this fried milk stall with no success – you'll find it on the outskirts of the market where the back entrance is.
Freshly submerged in bubbling oil upon order, each stick of three blocks of milk curd emerges crispy on the outside and gooey inside; it's almost like mochi, but not as smooth and with a bouncier bite.
The only makeshift Xiao long bao stall at Raohe, owned by two young chaps who make the XLBs on the spot, just look at how finely they're pleated! Better than din tai fung's and if we had enough tummy space, we'd have ordered another basket.
Herbal pork bone soup that we couldn't resist trying and it was good! Loved the lu rou fan too!
Absolute must try! Freshly made & baked on the spot with charcoal. I watched in wonder as they slapped the buns onto the sides, much like how naan is made, and then scrapped them off with a ladle - the result? Crispy, chewy bun with juicy minced meat, pepper & spring onions! No wonder the snaking queue! 😍
😂 This is still the best. 😋 At the end of the night market yo! #suntantravels

This is really awesome. At twd60. Japanese pancake. Inside there are eggs, vegetables and batter. The wasabi is also great.
This is really famous and can be found at every night market in taiwan. Diced beef and torched. Very tender and filled with awesomeness. If you like beef you have to try this. Some stalls allows you to add chilli powder or others as well. Around 60twd for 1 portion.
Many stalls selling braised food at the night market. Selection includes all kinds of braised pig intestines, blood cakes and etc.
