Got to know about the new Rich Burger after noticing their social media posts whilst scrolling around the phone one day. A relatively new opening, Rich Burger is located somewhat deep within Yishun situated within the Broadway coffeeshop at Blk 414 Yishun Ring Road — a bus ride from either Yishun Bus Interchange or Khatib MRT Station would reach a bus stop that is just a one minute walk away from the coffeeshop. The coffeeshop also houses an outlet of Tong Luck Economical Rice — a name that has since been becoming quite commonplace in coffeeshops and food courts alike. It is pretty easy to locate Rich Burger within the coffeeshop — the stall has a particularly loud signage that mimics that of neon lighting, while the logo features a walking burger with dollar signs in its eyes. The menu at Rich Burger is largely focused on its burger offerings; that being said, Rich Burger does also offer non-burger dishes for those whom are looking for other dishes — think items such as that of salad and pasta which are featured in the Rich Salad and Rich Pasta section of the menu.
Skimming through the menu for their Rich Burger offerings, we found ourselves giving their Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Burger a go. Based on the description in their menu, the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Burger comprises of elements such as a patty made with whole chicken thigh seasoned with cajun seasoning, sliced tomatoes, sliced pineapple, Hawaiian BBQ sauce and French Fries that are served on the side. The burger comes pretty much at a reasonable portion size; not too overwhelming, though the burger does feature a “double patty” look by default to make it look a little bigger as well. Slicing down the entire burger apart, one could find right beneath the bun on the top a pineapple slice; the bread being smeared with some of that Hawaiian BBQ sauce for flavour. Beneath the pineapple slice would be the whole chicken thigh patty seasoned with cajun seasoning. Having all of these elements together, we found the texture of the chicken patty to be pretty noteworthy; here, they have gone the way of forming those chicken patties by hand — they were incredibly soft and tender, and did not require much effort to chew apart. The savoury patty and that slice of melted cheese in between the two patties also went well with the soft buns and the pineapple slice — the pineapple slice adding a slight zing that cuts through the savouriness of the meat providing a refreshing flavour, while the Hawaiian BBQ sauce adds a tinge of smoky sweetness that compliments the meat. Laying beneath the patties would be the leafy greens and sliced tomatoes; both of which providing a wholesome feel to the burger. The French Fries that accompanies the burger are crisp whilst also not being particularly greasy; sufficiently seasoned for flavour.
Having only tried two of the burgers which Rich Burger has to offer, we did feel that the items here are a little bit of a hit and miss. The Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Burger would the better burger of the two that we had tried during our visit — the other burger which we have had would be the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger came with two (2) pieces of Buttermilk Fried Chicken — we felt that the batter for the Buttermilk Fried Chicken was a little thick and was rather difficult to slice through; something which compromised the dining experience a little. Perhaps Rich Burger might be a spot that seems to execute their grilled items slightly better than their fried items — something that those whom want to try them out might wish to note. Prices of the burgers at Rich Burger are somewhat similar to how other western cuisine stalls in the coffeeshops, hawker centres and food courts price their food. The lowest priced burgers at Rich Burger comes at $8.90 — these would be namely the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Burger, Hawaiian BBQ Beef Burger, Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger, Buttermilk Grilled Chicken Burger and the Avocado Burger; the priciest would be the Rich Burger King listed at $12.90 that features four (4) beef patties. The pastas on the other hand are priced from $6.90 to $10.90 — the most expensive pasta dishes are those that involves the use of swordfish. Based on what we have had, Rich Burger is one of those establishments that we would not quite make a trip out of our way for; perhaps a spot that residents around it will appreciate having around the neighbourhood as a convenient spot to get those burger cravings resolved.
