Came across this stall named See You Mee 又见面within T&D 136 Coffeeshop at Blk 136 Bedok North Avenue 3 (i.e. the coffeeshop which occupies the corner of the HDB flat where one can also find Hay Gelato, Nangfa Thai Kitchen, Nakhon Kitchen, Percolate etc.) — whilst seemingly looking like a rather standard noodle stall that serves up Laksa and Minced Meat Noodles, the stall also serves a few other types of noodle dishes, namely the Palau Ketam Famous Shrimp Chili Noodle, Yi Poh Mee Tai Mak and Signature Bittergourd with Pork Bee Hoon.
Having a choice of noodles between Mee Pok and Mee Kia, I opted for the latter — the Palau Ketam Famous Shrimp Chili Noodle with chili opted for the base sauce essentially tastes like a hybrid between dry chili pan mee and the standard minced meat noodles; the dish comes with a base sauce that is all the familiar notes of spiciness and vinegary tang that is to be mixed throughout the entire bowl, while comes topped off with dry chili pan mee-esque condiments which includes an egg, Ikan Bilis and the shrimp chili. One can also choose to add pork lard and spring onions if they so wish to — all of which are placed together with the utensils for patrons to self-service. The minced meat seems to be seasoned here without being too dry; there are some pretty chunky bits here, but they do carry an evident hint of pepperiness that felt rather obvious when had on their own. Ikan Bilis did give that saltish crunch, while the shrimp chili did provide that crisp texture that gave a good contrast — all that whilst packing an umami note to the entire dish, and adding a pretty intense kick of spiciness that tingles the taste buds which further goes on top of the already spicy base sauce if one opts for chili to be added. What felt a little disappointing was the egg; a default condiment to the bowl which was pretty overcooked and lacked of the molten yolk that one would usually be expecting. The soup does feel pretty clean and refreshing though, despite being the standard soup usually served with chicken rice elsewhere without feeling anywhere MSG-laden or greasy.
Would say that this is something I am probably not going to make an out-of-the-way trip for — it’s pretty decent as an option for residents, though I am not really a fan of how the base sauce can be a little too salty when one is nearly finishing the entire bowl. That said, it is a decent offering that is out of the usual noodle dish that one would be able to find out there — and this is something which I probably should give them props for.
