𝐈𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐬 ($3.70/$6.70)
Overall ⭐️ 3.5/5 ⭐️
The general favourites were 1) Baileys & Brownies (+$2 gourmet) for its punchy alcoholic kick and brownie bits and 2) Kochi Yuzu (+$1) for its refreshing citrus flavour (albeit slightly icy). Personally enjoyed the Ricotta with pistachio nuts (+$1 premium) that was light and creamy with bits of pistachio seeds but this might not suit those who prefer stronger cheese flavours.

We were less fans of the CNY special pineapple tart (+$1) with its artificially sweet pineapple taste. Chrysanthemum with cocoa nibs (+$1) had a distinctly strong floral taste but it leaned towards the artificial side, redolent of Yeo’s chrysanthemum tea πŸ˜…. The large amount of cocoa nibs embedded within also made it difficult to taste the floral notes and detracted from the smoothness of the gelato. Cereal milk had a more forgettable malty flavour.

𝐆𝐨π₯𝐝𝐞𝐧 π–πšπŸπŸπ₯𝐞 (3 ⭐️; $5.50)- Not sure if it’s because we went quite late in the evening but the waffle was disappointing. While crispy and airy, it had a strong buttery and rancid flavour that overpowered the ice cream.

Located near Boon Keng MRT, the minimalist cafe focus mainly on coffee, but also offer freshly churned gelato with crispy golden waffles ($5.50) or espresso waffles ($6.50)

Other than the classics, they offer unique gelato flavours such as Lemoncurd with Speculoos Bits and Bailey’s. It worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Recently opening their doors at Whampoa West, Slickshots is a new cafe with a minimalist decor theme that serves up specialty coffee β€” the cafe also serves up gelato that is supplied by Sweet Cheeks Gelato (yes, that gelato parlour up at Potong Pasir) that can be had either in a cup or with a waffle cone, or also to be paired with their Golden Waffles or Espresso Waffles.

Wanting to opt for something more conventional, we found ourselves going for the Golden Waffles with our gelato β€” the Golden Waffles here are more of the eggy sort than the ones that uses buttermilk; the latter being the type of waffle which is more commonly found in ice-cream/gelato parlours of the late. The texture of the Golden Waffles are also a tad β€œbread-y” in comparison, though can also be said as lighter and airier, thus easier to finish. Opting for the Pistachio and Cinnamon Brown Bread gelato, the gelatos were smooth, creamy and sticky; consistent in texture without melting too quickly β€” the former flavour carrying an alluring nuttiness, while the latter does remind us of a cinnamon bun with its emphasis on the spice and was surprisingly balanced in its sweetness which was pretty much the same when we had tried at Sweet Cheeks Gelato previously.

Being tucked away at a rather odd spot within the HDB block that it is located in, Slickshots does feel like a spot that would work as a quiet hideout for caffeine addicts to indulge in some me-time; somewhere to enjoy a good iced-shaken filter coffee whilst doing some reading or working from the laptop β€” all that with pretty decent gelato if one is craving for a sweet treat.

Slickshots is a quaint little cafe that opened in the heartlands of Boon Keng recently. The menu is fairly simple, comprising mainly of ice cream, waffle and beverages.

I had the Golden Waffle ($5.50) with Ice Cream (2 scoops for $6.70). The waffle is light, fluffy and buttery. The Pistachio and Cinnamon Brown Bread ice cream are smooth, creamy and flavourful, without being overly sweet. I like that there are bits of pistachio inside the pistachio ice cream, yums!

Although the menu is not extensive, the waffle and ice cream did not disappoint and the price is pretty reasonable as well. I love that this cafe opens till 10pm daily, which makes it a great post-dinner dessert/supper option for people living in the neighbourhood like me:) Hope it does well!
