Special shout-out to their Generra ($5.50), mocha with orange zest (they're got an orange peel to prove it!), which was fragrant, smooth, creamy and slightly chocolatey. Perfect for orange chocolate fans.
The Plain is located along Craig Road, just down the road from Selfish Gene cafe. Nearer train station being Outram Park MRT.
If you like Vegemite with its absurd-yet-intriguing saltiness you'll like this, I think.. Nice combi with the poached eggs and Iced Generra.
Mocha with a twist of orange. So refreshing as the sun was scorching hot. Not pictured is Dean's Breakfast: poached eggs on melted cheese & Vegemite sourdough toasts. So Aussie. Whether you'll like the dish is another issue, if you like how Vegemite tastes you might like the toast..
The café has a vast collection of Monocle magazine too! It was not so crowded when I came on Saturday afternoon. A conducive place to eat followed by leisurely reading some magazines (or chatting with friends).

Had my first cup of Generra by chance at Seattle and fell in love with it 😊 This is a cup of light Mocha with orange peel. Pretty refreshing! Still miss the original one.

Not ordinarily my breakfast of choice at The Plain but today, this hit all the right notes with its winning blend of warm, chewy organic oats (that's been soaked in apple juice), honey-infused yogurt, slices of fresh fruit and almond flakes.
The different types of fruit, all fresh and sweet, come in big pieces, and topped with a dollop of honey infused yogurt. I quite like it but I have to say, the "wetter" fruit and yogurt bowl at The Lokal occupies the number one spot in my heart. You can blame it on their chia seeds and housemade vanilla yogurt 😋
One of my go-to places for coffee, the baristas at The Plain recommended Genera for a lightly flavoured coffee. Comprising of coffee, chocolate and orange zest, Genera was mild, well-balanced yet flavourful. It smells deceptively like orange chocolate, but with a much needed caffeine kick. Definitely ordering this the next time round!

The Plain continues to be one of my preferred coffee places. Smooth and non acidic it maintains standard even after a few tries. Top it of with an open face sandwich for a simple lunch.
