Here is what we ordered:
-Steamed Spare Ribs with Black Bean Sauce
-HK Style curry chicken
-XW Signature Fried Noodle

I was expecting the curry chicken to be the soup kind, but it was the thicker gravy type! Wished they had given more chicken curry gravy though! We finished up the sauce faster than the ingredients! Loved the soft mashy potatoes and the addition of the crispy taukee skin! As for the fried noodle, I thought it will be like Hong Kong Noodle kind of texture, but this was more like a Chinese ramen kind of texture, abit strange!

Xin Wang Hong Kong Café had opened a new outlet at Novena for quite awhile already, but it is my first time dining in there ever since covid!

Got the fragrant spicy char siew fried rice ($9.80++)! It took quite awhile before the food got served (as compared to other dishes like the instant noodle which my dining companion got). First impression, the fried rice was really fragrant, and not too spicy! Almost like a sambal fried rice! However, the char siew was TOO FATTY TO MY LIKING! There was barely any lean meat for me to eat, 80% of it was fats! So although it was well charred and grilled, the pathetic amount of lean meat makes me not want to eat this again.

But if ou are fans of fatty char siew, do give it a go!

Today, I ordered papaya soup with chicken chop for my lunch. The papaya and vegetables are fresh and make the soup both tasty and nutritious. In addition, the chicken chop is tender and crispy. This meal costs $10.90 before GST and service charge. The papaya soup is one of Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe's specialty and I will rate this dish 9/10. It's definitely worth trying again.

Olive fried rice with pork chop. Really salty pork chop, oily and rather plain fried rice, would not recommend.

HK-style curry was created specially to be milder in spice and sweeter to cater to the Cantonese, as opposed to Indian curries. The curry here had a light texture to it, whilst still injecting a very modicum amount of spiciness. The coconut milk was somehow rather apparent, which might not be ideal for some people. Although this bowl looks small, it was decently filling, and full of ingredients — generous chunks of chicken meat, potato cubes, and tau pok. I did run out of gravy for my rice after a while, so having slightly more gravy would have been well appreciated!
