Wooshi x Burpple Bowl ($10.90)
.
Limited time deal until end March @wooshisg with #burpplebeyond . Super value meal to get double the treat of kara-age and kani sticks topped with fried shallots and a special pink sweet fish floss sitting on a bed of brown rice and served with a tub of super creamy salted egg sauce.
.

Thanks @burpple for the invitation and @wooshisg for hosting.

Vietnamese Broken Rice w Grilled Pork ($8.95)
.
This nondescript vietnamese joint located at the basement of Plaza Singapura has been getting constant evening queues probably in part due to the modest space but also the friendly pocket prices and authentic viet food served. Tried the broken rice, an interesting texture of rice that’s hard to describe. What i enjoyed was the tender grilled pork that wasn’t too dry and carried a mildly sweet and smoked flavour.

De Raza Iberico Presa Shogayaki ($32)
.
Recently been trying out several fusion places and @habibisansg serves up middle eastern and japanese fusion items. The iberico pork was the perfect doneness all tender and juicy with just the right amount of caramelisation. Won’t say I’m a huge fan of the accompanying burnt brocolli tabouuleh but thats probably just a personal preference. The other must order dish is the roasted brussel sprouts ($16) which was extremely addictive and makes for a great starter.

Clams ($16)
.
@zhen_de_la clams actually stole the limelight away from the speciality prawn noodles. A fusion of loca and japanese flavours, the clams were swimming in a melting pot of flavours when belacan married sake. There’s a real kick to the gravy and would have loved some bread to mop it all up.

Mentaiko Fries ($14)
.
Missing this fantastic mentaiko fries @thebrewingground . Think battered fries like the one from long john silvers only better and crispier drizzled with an extravagant amount of mentaiko sauce served in an extra large basket. Definitely suitable for sharinamongst 2-3 pax at least. It does get a tad salty so be sure to share the sauce with the fries hidden beneath!

Hanger Steak 400gm ($58)
.
Just opened @asapnco specializes in smoked meats and this hanger steak is their best seller. Doesn’t take a genius to understand why with this love at first bite slab of prized meat usually reserved by the butchers. The meat was perfectly balanced in terms of its smokiness, seasoning, tenderness and juiciness. Probably one of the best prepared beef I’ve had in a while. It takes about 40 mins to prep upon order so best to call to order in advance!

Mont Blanc Soufflé ($9.80)
.
This chestnut soufflé from @tamagoen_sg was surprisingly good. Ultra fluffy and light pancakes sandwiching cream and sweet chestnut bits with chestnut paste drizzled on top of more cream.

Breaded Otah Butty ($18)
.
@earlybirdsg serves up local flavours in cafe style with one of its signature crispy otah burger made with muar otah patty sandwiched between brioche buns. Love the heat from the otah patty but wished that the patty to bread ratio can be tweaked.

Chirashi Don ($21.80)
.
Excellent chirashi don @house_of_chirashi_sg at wallet friendly prices. This serving came with yellow tail, salmon, salmon belly, scallop, prawn and ikura amongst other ingredients. Each sashimi was sliced so thick it’s no surprised that there were positively more fish than rice. A truly enjoyable dining experience. With a small seating of less than 10, reservations are a must.

Grilled Seabass with Lemongrass ($22.90)
.
Officially my new favourite asian restaurant @yunnanssg really serves up flavourful dishes that’s sure to whet the appetite. The char permeates throughout the fish, giving it that slight crisp on the skin and the smokiness throughout while the seasoning tantalized the tastebuds by attempting to numb the tongue slightly. The spiciness level has just the right amount of kick for me and the portion is great for 2-3 pax.

Penang Fried Kway Teow ($6)
.
This plate of Penang ckt from Malaysia Chiak, a food chain found in several malls and focusing on Malaysian street food is as close we can get for now to the wide array of classics from our neighbour. I’m not complaining as this satiated my ckt fix with its generous portion of wok-hei infused kway teow complete with lard bits evenly distributed throughout. I’ve always preferred the more savoury penang style ckt as compared with the local sweeter style. Not all the selection available at Malaysia Chiak is of a passable standard so some caution is required when deciding on which stall to patronize.

Punggol Nasi Lemak (~$5/set)
.
Best fix for nasi lemak craving are these delicious plates from @punggolnasilemak . There’s a variety of sets to choose from at the newly opened branch of @punggolnasilemak located along Jalan Besar. My favourite is definitely the fried chicken. Thin Crispy crust on the outside with juicy meat. Both the wings and drumstick were fried to perfection and paired so well with the fragrant coconut rice.
