Hidden away in Novena Regency is this small Mexican place that opened 3 months ago. We came without any expectations but really enjoyed the food. We ordered the Carnitas Tacos ($8.50), Vegetarian Quesadillas ($9.50) and Baja Fish Tacos ($9.90, not pictured).

Hopefully their business does well despite not being as visible as the restaurants facing the main road!

Stopped by for lunch and ordered the Mentaiko Salmon Don ($13.90), which came with miso soup and green tea. You really can’t go wrong with mentaiko anything, but the quality of the salmon was surprisingly good, and the onsen egg was a nice touch too. Another plus was the cheery and attentive service!

Probably one of the best prata I’ve ever had. The Plain ($1) and Cheese ($1.80) were super crispy and tasty. But my favourite was the Mushroom Cheese ($2.60), which came with lots of mushrooms and melted cheese that tasted almost like cream cheese. Despite all these ingredients it was still crispy!

It’s quite a long wait (almost an hour on weekends) so I suggest you order first before finding a table. If you’re super hungry, order from the mixed rice stall next to it first as an appetiser ;)

I’m a huge fan of Luke’s Lobster in the US, but hesitant to pay the exorbitant prices for lobster rolls in Singapore. I’ve previously reviewed the more affordable ones from d’Good Cafe and The Refinery, which are pretty good options if you like lots of mayo in your roll (I welcome mayo anytime).

For a more clean (and affordable!) version, Chunky Lobsters does a pretty good lobster roll. I ordered the Original ($16). As the shop name suggests, the lobster comes in pretty big chunks - so delicious. There’s something not quite right about the bun though, but I’m not sure what it is. Maybe it needs more butter? The roll comes with a lemon slice which makes it even yummier, and some very addictive chips.

I’d love to try the melted butter and cheese versions next time! Looking forward to their new branch at The Cathay which will hopefully have more seating space.

Freshly fried, the Salted Egg Fish Skin ($10) came out warm and crispy. Definitely a far cry from the packaged ones. You won’t be able to stop eating them!

Also highly recommend the Char Kway Teow which is fried with vegetable oil (rare nowadays) and comes with beansprouts and chai poh.

Made it all the way to Tai Seng to try this recently opened Thai place! I got the Pad Thai with Prawns ($6.20) which tasted very authentic. Such great value for prawn pad thai! Also ordered the Stir Fried Kailan ($6) which was simple and tasty. Dishes are cooked to order in the open kitchen so you can be assured that your order will come out piping hot :)

This restaurant is by the same people behind Saute in Bugis, which I have yet to try. Food options in City Square Mall are quite unimpressive, so I was glad to come across this place. And it’s vegetarian too!

I ordered the Minced Shroom Pumpkin Tomato pasta ($10.90) which comes with assorted mushrooms and pumpkin seeds, in a tomato sauce. I was expecting there to be pumpkin pieces but there weren’t any :( The spaghetti was a tad overcooked but overall it was still an enjoyable dish.

The menu is very extensive. In addition to the different pasta there are also options like donburis, ramen, pizza, burgers, steamboat etc. I would be interested to try the donburis and cream-based pastas if I’m in the area again.

I come here on a regular basis now because I love it so much. Tried the Mee Siam ($9.90) today and it blew me away! It was a huge bowl, with very tasty gravy, topped with crispy tai pok, mock fish balls and fish cakes.

Take note that this dish is only available on Wednesdays!

I’ve come to Fill a Pita a few times for my Middle Eastern vegetarian fix. This time I got the Eggplant Pita Sandwich ($11) which was great - the eggplant and salad mix inside was really nicely seasoned. Definitely drop by if you’re looking for something fulfilling yet healthy!

Came across this bubble tea place by chance and got the black tea latte ($3.20) with bittersweet matcha pearls. The chewiness of the pearls was perfect, and they were neither too sweet nor too bitter. The flavour of the pearls changes every day so do check this place out!

I’m a huge fan of chirashi bowls and read good reviews about the ones at Jin Fine Dining. Thanks to a very generous eatigo discount, I gave it a try on a Friday night.

The Jin Chirashi (salmon, tuna, scallop, sweet prawn, sea urchin, white tuna and salmon roe) was amazing, with fresh slices of sashimi on a bed of seasoned sushi rice (with mushrooms, seaweed and more). I don’t like salmon roe and was able to change it to salmon, which is my favourite! The usual price is $35 but with eatigo’s varying discounts, it can be a really great deal.

My quest to find decent yet affordable lobster rolls in Singapore hasn’t been easy, with many ranging from $35-$40 onwards.

So I was so glad to find this one at The Refinery as part of their weekend brunch menu. At $28, it’s not super cheap but yummy enough for me to be willing to pay for it. The lobster was fresh, and mixed with the mayo and other ingredients (onions?) in the buttery roll, it was really tasty yet surprisingly light!
