Don and Selena spent three years collecting the many "antiques" here. What they have in the cafe is just 1/3 of their collection. A heartland #cafe with very strong personality and laid-back ambience. There are cuttings of old newspapers around to satisfy a reader's need. It was a fun experience to have a "crashcourse" on Singapore history(from the newspapers) while sipping coffee!
At $3, this is just too good for the wallet and the tummy. First, the chili is amazing, second, each plate of noodles are well cooked to the state that the taste was evenly spread throughout the dish!
It also provides an experience to eat out in the nature, of course for those who are willing to brave the Singapore heat!
It's important to escape once in a while. To get away from the madding crowd and just chill with a wonderful, leisurely meal. Tucked far away from seas of people and shopping malls is the perfect antidote to today's hectic lifestyle: The Marmalade Pantry at Fairways Drive.
I was introduced to this chic dining spot amidst lush greenery as it's the venue for one of July's Burpple Tastemakers' Eat Up events. An extensive tasting menu by Executive Chef Eddie Goh awaited us but naturally, we Burpplers simply couldn't resist taking photos of the place and the displays of pretty cupcakes the moment we arrived. Only then were we ready to sit down and commence dinner.
I felt thoroughly spoilt as there were a total of seven courses and a few were almost full-sized portions despite it being a tasting menu. The standouts for me were the smoked salmon, the oxtail soup, the pork belly and the sticky date pudding.
I found the smoked salmon very fresh and beautifully complemented by the slightly bitter sprouts on top and filling of sweet orange segments, avocado and kalamata olives.
The slow-cooked oxtail soup had loads of rich beefy flavour and a few pieces of tender beef. Totally enjoyed the piece of gruyere cheese toast that came with it too.
The third item that impressed me was the pork belly. When I asked Chef Eddie how he got the pork to be so moist and juicy within, yet crispy on the outside, he was kind enough to describe the process to our group. I shan't reveal his "secret" here but you can ask him when you pay a visit to the restaurant. He's a really friendly chap :)
The last course that made me very happy was the sticky date toffee pudding. Served warm, the fluffy and soft pudding had a slightly concave top which was ideal for cupping a nice puddle of the thick and decadent toffee sauce. A twist on the usual came in the form of the ice-cream. Instead of vanilla, there were berries in theirs. It reminded me of the cherry ripple ice-cream I use to stuff my face with when I was a kid.
What an awesome evening it was... Food truly brings people together. Thank you again Burpple for organising this.
Love the texture of the noodles and the tasty gravy. Definitely worth trying! Go after 1pm for shorter queue.
Oven-baked #Salmon with Asparagus and Crushed Potatoes served with Dill Velouté. Definitely one for the salmon lovers, cooked to perfection all the way through. The creamy sauce is a reduction of salmon stock, thickened with cream with dill to flavour. #CoffeeAndCravings
yes this is what the people in cbd calls the dish. at long last I had the chance to savor this highly raved dished and came out wanting for more. yes even at the ripe of age of 80, this grandmother is the shop front, recieving and barking orders whilst collecting money. at just $4, this shrimp dumpling noodle is quite shiok. a big dumpling filled with prawns and chestnut which was crunchy and flavourful. really worth a try. 😍😍
Located in Bishan Park, Cornerstone mirrors its surroundings, creating a lovely, tranquil atmosphere. If you can handle the heat, try their signature spicy Buffalo Wings with varying levels of spiciness, ranging from 1 to 10. The Earl Grey Jivara is a chocolate cake infused with Earl Grey, and is a pretty huge hit amongst the crowd, so you wouldn't want to miss that if you have a sweet tooth.

In the past, popiah was (still is) a household dish. Almost every family knew how to make it. The moms will prepared the filling and popiah skin. Then the kids will surrounded the dinning table and started wrapping them. But this activity is getting lesser over these few years.
Popiah is a very simple dish. Mainly assemble with the parts b/m.
1. The skin - the owner hand made every skin. He will grab a ball of very thick batter and spread a thin layer on to the hot plate. Fried it for less than 2mins. If the skin got too thick, the popiah will taste very heavy. If too thin, it can't contain the juicy turnip.
2. Stir fried Turnip - the uncle told me that frying turnip required patient. It must be fried till it's color turn light brownish as it's starch started to caramelize. Then it's sweetness could be portray out fully.
3. Crispy Golden Bits.
The crispy bits provided an savory sweet flavor which was so comforting to the mouth.
4. Unforgettable chili.
While you getting bore from the sweet turnip and savory bits, suddenly a tickling sensation was felt and kick started the taste bud again.
Ehhh.... So good.....😊😊😊 Old Long House Popiah
