Salmon sandwich comes with a side of nachos and salsa, basic but yummy! Staff were also kind enough to help us fill the dogâs water bottle and lend a bowl.
Happened upon this place, honestly so underrated! The food is so authentic and they donât hold back on oil or seasonings.
The fried prawn cakes were so perfectly crispy and delicious with the chilli, my bf and I FOUGHT over them. The meaty noodles were so savoury and creamy from the egg and cheese, now itâs what I crave every time I open a packet of maggi. I dabaoed half the noodles home bcos I couldnât finish, and they were even better the next day tbh.
Lemon tart, Vanilla Panna Cotta, and WADOâs Savoury dessert
All the desserts are served with the same funky colourful 80s style plating, very unique and makes for a great pic. However the desserts were probably my least favourite part of the 3-course meal. All desserts came with a colourful meringue (very cute, melts in your mouth) and chunky breadcrumbs (tasteless and a little confusing).
The Vanilla Panna Cotta came with a scoop of creamy strawberry ice cream. There seemed to be flecks of vanilla in the panna cotta itself, but it tasted of plain soy milk, and was more of a delicate soy milk jelly rather than a vanilla panna cotta.
The lemon tart itself was overpoweringly sweet, and paired with an extremely sour lime sorbet. When eaten together the result is quite overwhelming, and I couldnât bring myself to finish half the tart.
The savoury dessert was very odd. It seemed interesting on the menu, but was turned out to be a pile of unidentifiable ingredients, and the candied bacon wasnât really visible at all. The taste was so weird and indescribable, definitely savoury with a lasting aftertaste. Although my friend finished most of the plate, I donât think itâs something weâd order again.
Ordered the cod fillet main, but only had barramundi that day. It was cooked wonderfully, very tender and tasty, although the skin wasnât quite crispy. Also came with a fruity reduction which I wasnât a big fan of.
Next time I would definitely get the Mentaiko pasta. WADO makes the Mentaiko sauce fresh, and they are very generous with sauce and noodles (the server recommend it should be shared because gelat!). This is the best mentaiko Iâve ever had, big poppy fish eggs with a creamy sauce. It also comes with a whole soft-shell crab, perfect shared with maybe an additional side.
This is one of the best small restaurants Iâve been to, so glad itâs in my neighbourhood. Got the crab cakes appetiser and they exceeded expectations!
Unlike a conventional cafe crab cake, itâs more of a little croquette of crab with a smooth crab filling, rather than a chunky patty. It comes with a perfectly spicy chilli crab sauce. My personal fav crab cakes in SG so far!
Do note that WADO has a max capacity of ~10 pax at a time, so you likely need to reserve weeks in advance. The day I went I believe there were only 2 staff working, so also waited 20 min past reservation time + long wait for food.
Came for late dinner on Christmas Day, so quite a few menu items were sold out, no burgers or rice (quinoa only)
Pros:
- Largest poke cubes Iâve ever seen
- Tasty sauces, mala was innovative and tasted almost authentic.
Cons:
- Service: staff walked right past messy tables, wait time for food was long despite no food being cooked
- Sides: âchipsâ are not fries, but a small cup of odd tasting and broken potato chips
- Ingredients: Japanese and Hawaiian bowls only consist of 3-4 ingredients, seems like something simple that can be made at home.
1-for-1: 60 degree chicken & porky bowl
60 degree chicken was pretty good, tender and tasty. It came with some hazelnuts, which were unusual but surprisingly went well with the mashed potatoes.
Porky bowl was basically a pork katsudon. Japanese rice topped with pork and egg, standard but good!
Given the unusual setting I expected the food to be a little more interesting, if I come back I donât think Iâd order any of the items in the 1-for-1 promo.
Rather non-traditional waffles, smaller and thinner but still very crispy and delicious. Had a choice of vanilla or chocolate ice cream, the vanilla ice cream is thick and creamy, really pleasantly surprised that it isnât from a cheap tub. Fruits were fresh and syrup was generous, probably my favourite item here :)
We came for the mochi donuts but it seems theyâve been discontinued :(
Tried to use 1-1 for a latte + cold brew but was told that deal is only valid for 2 of the same kind, no flavoured drinks as well (which was not the case at other branches we went to)
Been here twice already, the decor and vibes are really nice, spacious and clean. Although itâs opened recently the weekend crowds have already begun, and it gets pretty noisy then.
The croissant was quite fluffy and crispy, but didnât come with any condiments or toppings. Apple strudel was sweet and crispy, not anything too special too though.
Overall Iâd come back during non-peak to study, but given the pricing not too often and definitely not during weekends.
Cafe was crowded so we were seated in the back area next to toilets. The vibe is quite different and not very nice, although it would be perfect for a very very private meal.
The beef cheek was really tasty and tender, going perfectly with the smooth mashed potatoes and mushroom sauce. Unfortunately the prices are quite steep compared to other cafes, I wouldnât return without 1-for-1.
The top was perfectly golden and cracked nicely when broken. The custard was satisfying with a great vanilla flavour (little black flecks can be seen from the vanilla bean/extract used), though a tiniest bit overcooked.
Quite expensive, best to be shared between 2!
