Very decent beef bowl with nicely seasoned beef, moist bed of rice and an egg to cap it off. Good for easy lunches with a colleague.

Fizzy and mildly sweet, with a zing from the pineapple enzyme. A refreshing drink for when you’re stuffed but still want something to sip on! Helps that it’s got good-for-your-tummy digestive properties too.

Wonderful pour. Very smooth, very creamy though it got a bit too milky for me towards the end.

Simple coffee spot tucked in a pretty-hard-to-find spot in Fahrenheit 88 (look for the ICLS Language Centre). Food is vegetarian only, but this signature of a curry rice dish is certainly hearty enough to curb meat cravings.

Tenkusu (tempura bits) could’ve been crispier for the crunch effect it was intended for, curry could’ve come with a bit more veg but flavour wise, quite satisfying. The “barista” twist is the crack of coffee powder on top — adds a lightly bitter yet savoury aftertaste that was surprisingly pleasant.

May not look like much but that airy cream in the middle is ultra fragrant of strawberry sweetness. Goes well with the fluffy roll cake. A bit sad that there was only one (albeit large) strawberry in there.

Favourite version of nasi lemak is definitely the humble breakfast packet that sees just the mainstay coconut rice with sambal, egg, ikan bilis and peanuts. This one’s really delicious! Rice is redolent of fragrant santan, topped with that sweet and spicy sambal for a good morning kick.

Relatively new to the neighbourhood, this bake shop has a sweet touch. There are cakes, doughnuts (omg), brownies and a small selection of savouries (on weekends mostly).

The signature is this earl grey cake that sports three layers; the cake is fragrant while the cream cheese filling has a tinge of saltiness, both of which come together for an interesting balance.

Seriously fat slice of chocolate cake that rocks smooth ganache and decently moist sponge. Could’ve done without the slightly sweeter vanilla ice cream, but that hot-and-cold contrast was quite enjoyable!

Served warm, this toasty and cinnamon-spiced apple butter cake would make a nice tea companion.

Hard to get this wrong but kudos to this charming nook for nailing those perfect swirls! The chocolatey-cheesy balance is great, and goes pretty nicely with the mildly sweet dollop of cream.

Wooop, value for money! Was introduced to Moim’s delicious stews, and my order turned out ultra flavourful and chock-full of seafood and tofu. Not at all the diluted, soupy stuff you get at most places with this price. Granted the side dishes are not very well-varied, but still refillable (a shocker since these commercialised mall Korean joints usually don’t).

When in search for a clean, delicious noodles meal, this non-descript spot in DJ should do the trick! Reminiscent of a less frilly B & Best, the seafood options run the gamut — from pomfret fish slices to housemade fried fish cakes and those fresh, juicy oysters. The broth is flavoursome, while not at all salty. Though I personally prefer having the noodles dry (tossed in dark sauce) for something more savoury.
