Located near Tiong Bahru MRT at about 8-10 minutes walk away, Coq and Balls is located amongst a row of cafes/restaurants. We were welcomed by friendly staff and it had a chill vibe to it.
We ordered 5 dishes and our favourite amongst all was the âballsâ from their Coq & Balls dish [$15.90]. It was a croquette with crispy outer layer and creamy inner layer. Would say that this is one of the yummier croquettes Iâve tasted in Singapore. The wings had a strong lemongrass taste to it. Other than that, we werenât blown away.
Their Tom Yum Seafood Pasta [$20.90] packs a rainbow of flavours in its sauce plus they were generous with their seafood ingredients too.
The tomato soup [$6]was thick and flavourful! The texture felt like it was blended from scratch. We feel that this is good for sharing!
As for the chilli crab sauce and clams [$14.90], it was kind of underwhelming as the chilli was too sweet for us and the clams didnât seem to absorb the taste too well too.
Lastly, the caesar salad [$10.50]was refreshing especially more so because of the sauce.
All in all, we will come back for more! :)
Located in PLQ mall near Paya Lebar MRT station (East West Line). Hokey Poki is a cosy place to have an affordable and quick Japanese style meal.
Having been there for the first time, we were welcomed by an enthusiastic staff.
I ordered a Gyu Niku salad and Bara Chirashi Don.
Albeit on the saltier side, a generous portion of the Gyu Niku salad was served. The ingredients such as the mushroom, were premium especially for the price that we paid.
The Bara Chirashi Don was topped with some chopped up sashimi, avocado and sprinkled with some roe, sesame and seaweed bits. The purple or black rice at the bottom was fragrant and palatable. Both the toppings and rice proved to be a great match. However, it would have been better if the amount of toppings like the sashimi, matched the amount of rice.
Will come back for a casual meal again if I am at PLQ!
Besides the other impressive dishes, the Beetroot Salad with Strawberry, Macadamia, Horseradish & Smoked Olive Oil Ice Cream was another of our favourites. [$14]
The Beetroot Salad, had a surprise element in it. When we saw âsmoked olive oil ice creamâ, we were hesitant. However, with some prompting from one of the friendly staff, we made the order. Boy, was it refreshing when mixed together, with crunches of Macadamia nuts.
We decided to try something different for our appetizers this time round. Loved both the Sea Urchin, King Crab & Cod Brandade on Toast AND Beetroot Salad. ($30 for 2 toasts)
As a seafood lover, the toast was everything topped all in one! Only wished that I had more space for them.
Located in Claymore Connect, Muddy Murphyâs about a 15 minutes walk or a 14 minutes bus ride away from Orchard MRT.
They have been around for many years and still maintains its classic vintage look. Felt like I was brought out of Singapore!
On both occasions that I visited, I had their Roast beef which was consistent and good, accompanied with the Yorkshire puddings (which are of different qualities on both my visits) .
Itâs also one of the few places in Singapore that serves Shepherdâs pie with minced lamb meet! Love the authenticity.
Between the apple pie and apple crumble, I prefer the Apple crumble. It has different layers of textures and isnât too sweet.
If you are looking for a set meal, go for a Sunday Roast! Lobster bisque is part of the menu too!
Top it up with a few pints of beer to complete the experience.
Definitely is yes, to going back !
Having seen the long queues for months and some raving reviews from my friends, I decided to give it a try with some prompting.
This outlet is located in Jewel, Changi Airport. We ordered the Charcoal Grilled Seabass with Lemongrass, Steam Pot Chicken Soup, Poached Seafood Rice in Prawn Broth and Stir Fried Green Dragon Vegetable/ Chives.
The overall taste was mediocre and did not quite meet my initial expectations, considering the popularity, reviews and price. The chicken soup tasted decent but is something that I can get at any other chinese restaurants. As for the poached seafood rice in prawn broth, out of the 4 of us, none of us could taste any bit of prawns, despite its orangey outlook. Moving on to the vegetable, the portion was small and was tough to chew. Lastly, the grilled seabass with lemon grass was underwhelming as it had almost no traces of lemon grass as we tasted it and was under grilled. Hence, the spices overtook the taste and it was not quite pleasant.
Overall, I would say that the balance of taste isnât there and did not much up to traditional Yun Nan dishes. It might be a case of inconsistency, I donât know but itâs not a place that I will return to, unless someone would like my company at the same place.

Located near Tanjong Pagar MRT (East West Line), this shop serves a variety of ramen, from Tsukumen to Hokkaido Sapporo Ramen and rice bentos. They serve really generous portions, especially for the Tsukumen I ordered.
The Tsukumen tasted pretty good, with the accompaniment of grilled chicken that were tender.
As for the rest of the ramens that I tried, they tasted like a fusion of chinese noodles soup rather than sapporo ramen styles that I tried in Japan. It might probably be their own twist! If you are looking for something more authentic, then this might not be for you.
The staffs were friendly and attended well to us. Additionally, if you have JPassport account, you can redeem a free chicken karaage.
Located just 2 bus stops away from Botanic Gardens MRT station (Circle/ Downtown Line), Curry Wok is located in Coronation Arcade (next to Coronation Plaza).
Having seen this shops many times, this is actually my first time visiting it. If you are looking for tasty home cooked style food, this is the place to go!
Ordered the Homemade Ngoh Hiang, Chap Chye, Curry Chicken and Otak, which were all flavourful and palate friendly for those who has lower tolerance for spiciness! The Ngoh Hiang was really crispy and filled with ingredients and not too tough on the insides too. However, in my opinion, I would prefer my Otak with more fish meat and spice, for a good kick.
Friendly staffs and a cosy and clean environment. Itâs definitely an afforable meal for the quality we are getting. Definitely going back again :)

Located within 313@Somerset. GO Noodles originated in Malaysia and is known for its rice noodles and their fish and meatballs.
I had the signature bursting meatball, which was served in bone broth. The broth is pretty aromatic, especially with a shot of Hua Diao Jiu (aged for 3 years) added in. In addition, I added a soft-boiled egg to add on to the flavours! The soup is slightly on the saltier side but itâs still worth a try!
As for the meatball, there was not much of a burst, but more of a slight ooze as you bite into it. You can try other fish balls, roe balls or meat balls into the bowl if you would like as well.
I recently ordered a Pan Mee delivery which did not disappoint. The soup was similar to the bursting meat ball and accompanied by crispy anchovies and green onions. The noodles were smooth and springy which is surprisingly good.
Would I go back for it? Yes, but once in a while, when I would want some hot soup or comfort food.
Tried the Shack Stack. Have tried Shake Shack in other countries before and this outlet just doesnât match up to its said standard.
The mushroom was overly fried and the patty was too tough. The hotdog was too tough as well.
I liked the cheese sauce for the fries though. It isnât the usual Nacho cheese sauce that we get on our cheese fries in Singapore. Itâs much lighter in taste which suited my tastebuds.
Wouldnât crave for it in SG again !
