One of the many things I love about #Singapore: That we have easy access to a myriad of delicious hawker eats whenever a craving strikes.
I'd gladly queue for this again. Felt so loved by the makcik each time I savoured a spoonful of the flavourful chicken broth; totally bedazzled by the sheer amount of ingredients that went into it. All these for only $3!
Noted this stall that serves all things Malaysian in Bedok Interchange Food Centre. Their Ipoh Hor Fun is served in both dry or wet variants and in two portion sizes ($3 or $4). I like how thick the sauce is, dark and flavourful with slurpy rice noodles that is smooth to down. Accompanying the Hor Fun was the Sambal; one which tasted more raw but somehow lacked the punch.
I guarantee you that the black carrot cake with chilli ($2.50/$3) is totally out of this world and definitely one of the best around. I have grown up eating this and till now, the taste and flavour is still the same. The wok hei is just amazing while the sweet and spicy carrot cake just makes you wanna go back again and again. The glistering shine is worth all the calories.

04. It has been there for many years and fiercely competing with Hua Kee which is a stall away. Now there is an option for you to choose what kind of noodles you want!! Beetroot, spinach, etc kinda noodles. Pretty interesting. This is pretty decent bowl of wanton noodle.
I ordered the large(480ml) Roasted pumpkin soup + Focaccia bread roll for $7.70. This is perfect for calorie conscious people(like me) as the dish is only 208calories{ 152calories for the Regular size(350ml) }. There are other low calorie soups too! The calorie values of each dish is listed right beside each item on the menu, which I am especially fond of👍 The soup was gooey(in a good way) and it tastes better with the almond bits on top. The bread roll was very fragrant and tasted amazing by itself but *a tip; dip the bread roll into the soup and eat it. Anyways, I would definitely come back and try other soups ;D
4 munchies: While the noodles had great texture, I'd have liked the char siew a bit more charred and fatty. The standout element of the dish was the chilli for me - zesty with a hint of sweetness from the char siew sauce.
Hua Kee Hougang Famous Wanton Mee, 01-10
I read a blogpost written by DanielFoodDiary about this dish and he said it was only 502 calories?! Being a calorie conscious person, I decided to try it out. The dish costs $11.90 even though it is very pricey(it's from a restaurant what can we expect) but it was a really big plate with a very generous serving and filled with lots of ingredients like chicken, prawns, bean sprouts and many other vegetables. I wasn't exactly extremely full as I was super hungry when I ate it but a normal person would most probably be unable to finish the plate by themselves. All in all, it tasted great I would most definitely go back and eat it again :)
[Old Airport Road Food Centre] Besides the usual hokkien mee, wanton mee and chicken rice, you can even get frozen yogurt now in a hawker centre. Bizarre but true. However, I have to agree it's a smart move as there will always be a crowd and rental is relatively lower as compared to a retail space in a shopping mall. Is this a recipe for success which will kickstart more entrepreneurs to set up unique stalls in our local hawker centers? The major stumbling block I would say is the right target audience. For example, setting up a frozen yogurt bar in Old Airport Road Food Centre is appropriate as there are many young working adults or students patronizing there on a regular basis. Furthermore, by pricing your large froyo at $5 ($1.95 cheaper than llaollao) is a good tactic and in the long run, Jogurtz can maybe expand their choices of fruits and toppings to better compete with llaollao.
Be prepared to queue and be rewarded for your patience with a delicious bowl of lor mee that i rate as one of the best in Singapore.
4.5 munchies: Noodles firm to the bite, generous ingredients and most important of all, the sweet and fragrant stock made from fresh prawns and anchovies! Even though I prefer my hokkien mee with red sambal chilli, this was so good that I could make do without it and still felt satisfied after wiping the plate clean.
P.S. Be prepared to wait for at least 30 mins, and the uncle closes the stall as and when he likes it.
