Finally got hands on these cakes on the 4th try, almost as elusive as the LUNAr eclipse. 🌚 The best part about these are that they ain’t cloying sweet. This Yam Orh Nee ($8) slice has yam gingko paste interspersed between the vanilla chiffon layers, which are light and fluffy. So is the accompanying coconut Chantily cream, which is texturally light as well. It has a good whiff of the yam and coconut with every fork.

A good cake indeed. Well executed.

Who else is a fan of the Banana Leaf experience? Finally went for the homestyle dishes @samayalby6ixers aptly on yesterday’s Deepavali Sunday. Ordering this felt like we were in a foreign country, but with loads of fun. The young lady’s English wasn’t good, but she and us tried our darndest best to communicate and we finally got our orders all well. :D

The signatures here:
- Chicken 65, a spiced fries chicken dish that’s full of red chilli and spices flavour, though not spicy at all
- Gobi 65, a deep fried cauliflower dish that was our favourite. Doesn’t feel like you are eating cauliflower and more like crunchy fritters that are still moist within
- Squid Masala - this was awesome. The gravy packs a spicy punch and full of the thick aroma of masala.

Plus the good service continues throughout the meal. The same young lady came by thrice - once to offer the curries as you see here, 2nd time to ask...

Finally made a trip to @bakerybrera (nearest station Farrer Road) to check out the golden bakes. The Matcha Cruffin ($5) caught our favour - a well constructed croissant in a muffin shape. The not-too-sweet matcha filling spills out when you cut into the buttery, flaky layers. Swipe for the flow.

A tad pricey here despite the neighbourhood bakery positioning, but already looking forward to trying out the other cruffin flavours (PB&J, salted caramel anyone?)

Here to try out the Bak Kut Teh after hearing a few raves. But the star, is the Fried Porridge and the nondescript-looking Dry Mee Sua.
💫Dry Mee Sua ($0.50) - Springy egg noodles tossed in a hint of pork lard (?) oil and soy sauce. So simple, but oh so good.
💫 Fried Porridge with pork slices ($5) - Savoury in every spoonful of broken rice grains with a wok hei charred aroma hint. The meat slices were fresh and springy, and though my bro said there was a porky taste, I begged to differ.

Brunch is to weekends like how bacon is to pasta and French toast.
Been a while to @onemancoffee . While prices have increased over the years, a Gashouse Eggs (bottom right) is $13 now v. $10 last time, happy to be able to use @burpple 1-1 there.
The mushroom aglio here packs a punch in spiciness. French toast was just a tad on the drier side, and more for those looking at a plainly sweet rendition.

Supple, freshly grilled eel on short grained rice. You may choose to eat it like that, or, scoop into a small bowl and pour the accompanying broth to make for a hearty porridge. Or, sprinkle a spoonful with wasabi and add any one of the special sauces between sweet, spicy or unagi special. The slightly sweet spicy sauce incorporates an oomph of slight sweetness to raise the charred aroma and taste of the fish up even more. #herpenandfork #sgblogger #sgfoodie #8dayseat #burpple #vscofood #openricesg #cafehoppingsg #instafood #instafood_sg #onthetable #stfoodtrending #manman #manmanunagi

The Ngoh Hiang was robust in flavor and chock full of crunchiness from the cleverly inserted radish cubes. Pair with the kick ass chili, and the soft otah and you essentially have a good start to a meal at this neat Peranakan eatery tucked away in Shaw Centre @indigobluekitchen. Have a great weekend everyone~

This shell pasta with tomato base is cooked al dente and once you place an order with one of the cute wooden sticks bearing your table number, it is sent to your table piping hot. Great sauce to boot, as was our Tagliatelle Carbonara which was slurp-licious with the mushroom cream and ribbons of springy tagliatelle.
Festive specials, at least when we visited for the Festive Lunch buffet include the Roasted lamb, Gammon Ham Charcoal Pizza, savory-sweet bread and butter pudding. If you want variety, this one is a winner from Japanese to Indian to Western to Asian (even a live laksa / noodles) station. #herpenandfork #sgblogger #sgfoodie #8dayseat #burpple #vscofood #openricesg #cafehoppingsg #instafood #instafood_sg #onthetable #stfoodtrending

Smoked Cheese French Toast @yakunkayatoastsg. If you’ve been following my stories, you’ll know that I’ve recently taken a shine to the Iced Soya Milk Tea (M-$3.20/L - $4.20). Think Teh, but with the outstanding aroma and silkiness of this soy milk from them.

Just take my $$$. #herpenandfork #sgblogger #sgfoodie #8dayseat #burpple #vscofood #openricesg #cafehoppingsg #instafood #instafood_sg #onthetable #stfoodtrending

Subtle creamy notes against a fragrant background.

Then there was the luscious Bruschetta with Parma Ham, sundried tomato, cream cheese and grilled peach. All come together into this savoury, rich combo that is purely indulgent. #supplydemandorchardgateway #supplydemandsg #herpenandfork #burpple #sgfood #sgfoodblogger #8dayseat #sgblogger #cafehoppingsg

It's packed with cheesy flavour from the parmesan, a yellow hue from the yolk and the firm bite is rounded off by the savouriness of the bacon.

Like mac and cheese somewhat, but taken a notch up so you can't stop. #herpenandfork #burpple #sgfood #sgfoodblogger #8dayseat #sgblogger #cafehoppingsg #tiaravels #aristocampo #rome #trastevere #trastevereroma

;) If you are looking for somewhere central to hit the drinks and meals after work, The Gong located at Bugis' Duo Galleria is that not-too-common place that can do both drinks and hearty dinner mains well.

Take this Grilled Meat Platter, with grilled Australian beef, NZ lamb rack, pork sausage, chicken and beef satay that's perfect for a meaty gathering sharing. ($40/$56 to share portions for 2/4). The beef is a nice medium, with that charred exterior. Say dayum. We also loved their Asian creations, which I'll share separately.

Also by the same team behind Drinks & Co in Holland Village. Thanks @msginginly for sharing this underrated gem. #thegongbydrinksandco #herpenandfork #burpple #sgfood #sgfoodblogger #8dayseat #sgblogger #cafehoppingsg #duogalleria #thegongsg
