While the food was incredibly salty, the Pineapple Daiquiri ($12++) was fine. At half price of usual cocktails, Iām not going to complain. Wasn't anything to shout about, though.
On first bite, the Smashed Burger ($12++) was fine, maybe even delightful (I havenāt had a burger in a while). But at the end of my meal, I was struggling to finish it. There supposedly is spicy horseradish aioli in it - that wasnāt obvious to me.
The Calamares Fritos ($12++) didnāt help, either. Squeezing the lime on it didnāt help with the saltiness at all. I left some of it behind, quite sadly.
Never thought this was possible, but I didnāt finish the food on my plate.
This was one of the saltiest meals Iāve had inā¦. Ever. Thank God they served water & were attentive in topping it up.
TLDR: This was salty AF. Both of them. Saltier than I am about my meal.
Service on the rooftop bar was clinical & barely attentive. I felt like the staff were at least trying, though - so I'll give them that.
I felt relaxed in the calmness of the night - temperature gets pretty cool after sunset, & I was seated outdoors... So I ended up getting 2 drinks to while my time away. I did have my eye on 3 drinks, though - so getting just 2 pretty much shows I wasn't thoroughly enjoying myself.
Felt very forgotten here on the ground-floor bar. I was the only customer, & the waiter on duty sat me down & then went back to the bar counter.... Without handing me a menu.
As he was twiddling his thumbs, I was unable to get his attention & had to walk to him to ask for a menu. The menu then arrived.
I got 1 drink, & the drink was fine. I would've gotten another if I felt like I enjoyed the experience here on the whole. My complementary popcorn snack was also not replenished - that was quite expected.
Service in this bar & the hotel in general needs to be improved on.
Had a later lunch than usual on a weekday (this was at 12:15pm) & this was a 15-min wait... To be clear: This was food preparation time, not queuing time; so I was sitting down comfortably, chillin' & waiting for the buzzer to beep.
While I personally wouldn't go out of my way to dine here, it is better than your average Hokkien Mee. I'd come back again because it is convenient for me, & it is a comforting dish to have šš»
I expected more wok hei, but that notwithstanding, this was a decent plate of wet Hokkien Mee. Saucyness level was good; chilli packs a punch & compliments the flavours well.
I ordered the large portion ($10) to share between 2 people & it was sufficient; good amount of ingredients that were fresh. If you wanted more, you can add-on specific ingredients at various prices - I might do that next time.
By 8:00am (this was on a Sunday), there were already 10 people in lineā¦. š¤Ø
Would I go back? Idk. I hate queuing, so probably not. But was this a good bowl of noodles? Yeah. Iām that much fatter now š¬
I was here at 7:30am (which is when they open) on a weekend, & was 3rd in line. I waited 24 mins to place my order... & in that time, I realized I wasn't the actual 3rd in line. People sit down after having placed their orders, so I was a fake 3rd š
Sadly, they messed up my order. I ordered a large Pork Rib Prawn Noodles ($10), & a regular Prawn Noodles ($8) - but both were served as large portions. Oh well. At least they were delicious.
The soup is light yet tasty, & doesnāt leave you feeling overwhelmed with the flavours. Unfortunately, they donāt do free soup refills, which may be a turn-off to some.
I wouldāve liked a refill of this tasty bowl.. But I did order a Pork Intestine Soup ($5) all for myself, so that satisfied me. It doesnāt look like much, but for 1 pax this was great. Intestines were chewy without being rubbery, & were cleaned well.
First time trying fried porridge thanks to my colleagues' recommendation & wow, my mind is blown. What a hearty, filling bowl! It is starchy, fragrant (from the Shallot oil, I presume) & really tasty. I had the Mixed Pig Organs Fried Porridge, & my colleagues had the Century Egg variant - which also looked good.
I heard the other dishes here are pretty good too... Like their plethora of noodle dishes, bakuteh, etc. That explains the snaking long lines at lunch time!
Thankfully, I didn't have to queue, & was able to secure a table too. I came before the weekday lunch crowd, which was fortunate because a few minutes after ordering, the line built up pretty quickly.
I didn't expect a coffeeshop meal to cost $14 (total) for 2 people..... A platter of duck for 2 pax, & 2 bowls of rice? Really?
But dang, this was impressive & I'd gladly come here again. Loved how saucy & flavourful this was, with the duck meat being tender & not gamey. The soup was delicious & comforting, too. I totally understand the hype, now.
