There are few hot pot experiences as unique as this — you can bring your own ingredients to add on, and it comes from a prawn noodle stall! Originally from Geylang Bahru Hawker Centre that is currently undergoing renovation, Wen Wen sells prawn noodles with pork ribs, and doesn't list hot pot on its signboard. First thing you need to do is call ahead and ask for the friendly owner Richard to let him know how many people are coming for hot pot. We highly recommend asking for the Prawn and Seafood Hot Pot ($50 for two pax, $60 for four and $80 for six), where fresh prawns, clams, pig intestines, pig tails, pork ribs and fresh crabs bubble away in a sweet prawn broth enhanced by Pu-er tea. Secondly, be sure to bring along your favourite veggies and meats to cook — our must-haves include mushrooms, cabbage, radish, cheese tofu and shabu-shabu meats. If you'd like to indulge, ask for fancier pots that include abalone (up to $100 per pot). Grab a seat and enjoy this truly memorable meal complete with refillable soup and a choice of rice, bee hoon, or yellow noodles to go with it!
Avg Price: $15 per person

This Saturday night was definitely an uplifting moment for me as I managed to reconcile with something that has eluded me for a while. Everything just seemed so right and back to normal once this cauldron of goodness was served. The wok hei, flavour and comfort level was just how it tasted like when I first had it a couple of years ago. Quoting from a fellow foodie, this claypot mee tai mak is definitely worth 5/5 munchies.

This galaxy cake boasted chocolate sponge and marbling chocolate mousse, infused with Cointreau orange curd. Therefore, you get a surprising tangy twist mixed with the usual sweetness of chocolate cakes. The mousse was light and simply melts in your mouth.

Another gorgeous dessert here, this is a mini world of lush landscaping.

We prefer this to the Twilight Cake. In terms of both texture and taste, there's a lot going on in the mouth with the fluff green sponge cake, crispy dark chocolate soil, and creamy fresh mint custard and apple compote - so be sure to mix all of them and eat them together. While it may be a tad dry, the rum shot helps moisten it and added complexity in its taste.
🔸
Which is more popular - the Twilight or Terrarium? Owner Ivan says both, because everyone who comes would order one each. But if you have to order only one, I'll recommend the Terrarium.
It was my first time trying their "Laksa Goreng" although I have been coming to Dahlia Cafe for a couple of years.
Not sure if the cook missed something out or I was under a wrong impression but my tastebuds couldn't detect any "laksa" flavour in here. It was also sweeter (in a "chilli sambal" plus tomato sauce way) than I anticipated. Having said that, these factors did not detract from it being a tasty thick "beehoon" dish. The amount of prawns, squid, fish cake and egg was rather plentiful for the price too.
Therefore, as long as you don't expect a classic Nonya laksa fried dry-style (which is what I had in mind), you won't be disappointed.
Arriving at 5pm as the cosy little restaurant opened, we chose the Permium buffet which gave the complete menu and selected unlimited drinks.
The cheese fondue fully added to the already well-seasoned meat.
- the Meltique beef (only for premium buffet) was a total delight.
- Beef Short plate was tender and well flavored.
- Shabu shabu beef was just right. One of my favourites.
- Pork belly and the pork collar were both most remarkable.
- the fried dory was crispy and tasty
- the crayfish were fresh
- the fish otah was unique.
Our very honest assessment was- every dish was delicious, and unlike other restaurants, there really wasn't any dish that was not of quality. The free flow (additional fees) of drinks allowed us to keep changing drinks and asking for more. And the coconut and yam ice cream (in addition to other flavours) truly topped up the evening's great experience.
Great attentive service.
For around $40 per person (all in, Premium buffet with unlimited flow of any drink of your choice), it's a most unforgettable meal that we will certainly come back for.

The lunch at the refinery blew me away. This fusion version of minced noodles using ramen and pulled pork is the bomb.
The ramen is tangy and Q, the pork is fork tender, there's loads of pork lard and its spicy as hell. -
Those who love BCM will know what I mean. Try it!

Finally decided to try the much raved premium bara chirashi don ($21.90). They were generous with the serving that is filled to the brim (huge chunks of salmon, tuna, squid, prawn, ikura etc) tho however, the cuts of sashimi weren't as fresh as I thought they would be and I even found some bones on my salmon sashimi. I Guess it's value for money but it's not the best bara chirashi don I've tasted. Was a tad disappointed given the fact that reviews of it were great, Guess my expectations were alil too high..
This particular Tung Lok Seafood outlet at Orchard Central offers a lesser known Chinese and Japanese lunch buffet that might just be right up your alley. For just $26.80 on weekdays and $28.80 on weekends, there are fresh, thick cuts of salmon sashimi for the seafood fanatics in your family, comforting dim sum for the folks and the crowd favourite of salted egg yolk fish skin to munch on in between changing plates. It's best to gather a larger group for this (there's also a minimum seating of four persons) so you can try more items on the menu! Other note-worthy items include the Crispy Eggplant with Pork Floss, Fried Beancurd Skin Rolls with Shrimps and Deep-fried Prawns with Crispy Oats. End your meal with the refreshing Herbal Jelly with Honey — if you still have space, that is!
