[MATTAR, SINGAPORE] Don't remember the Circuit Road Hawker Centre being so crowded at night, but there were so many dishes I wanted to try π among all of them we had 3 that caught our eye:
The Fried Prawn Mee from Tian Seng was like a roller coaster ride; I was shocked & disappointed at the start when I saw that the bigger $5 portion was so small... But once I tried it I fell in love π the umami prawn & garlic flavour was so intense, and the noodles were cooked just right! Although the wok hei might be slightly lacking, but such intense prawn flavour is really hard to find. This might be one of my top 5!
I've had oyster omelette ($5) from Ghim Guan quite a few times, and the standard remains high. This rendition is wetter than others, but rich in flavours. I love how eggy this whole dish tastes and that the oysters were plump and juicy!
Lastly, the Claypot Chicken Rice ($7) from Nanxing was just decent, felt like there was nothing much to say about the rice. The chicken was very tender and fresh though!
Such a nice place for dinner, with quite a huge variety of stalls to choose from! I think this is a lesser known hawker which you should try visiting π
From J & T Kopi Roti
Crispy Toast filled with kaya & butter.
Fresh brewed black kopi.
Chilled.
Sambal Stingray @$12/$15
28 BBQ serves up fresh Sambal Bbq Stingray.
Meat is fresh and tender, slides off the bone easily and not over-cooked at all.
Sambal was damn shiok and was not too overly- spicy.
Have ate this a few times and dapao back also. Always consistently good.
@80 Cents per stick
The Aroma coming out from the store made me really Buay Tahan.
As I waited for Hanjiang Food to arrive, really bth liao, and Esah Satay smells too good, decided to get 10 sticks to quench my hunger.
No regrets. What came were 10 sticks of Chunky pieces of chicken, all well marinated, tender, and slightly charred edges. All the perfect combination for great satay.
Remembered reading about this place on social media before. The uncle chef dances whilst cooking this plate of Char Kway Teow.
The CKT smells good. Tasted only ok though.
The one thing I like about this hawker centre, is that I see most stores accept cashless qr code payment like grabpay etc. Not bad for a hawker centre located in the midst of a old neighbourhood. And most storeholders I see are of the older generation, who says they can't embrace technological advancements.
Good job uncles & aunties.
While some places half their seabass head and tail, the ones here were halved sideways along the backbone where you get both the head to tail on one side.
The sea bass was moist and delicate, with soft textured flesh. The sea bass retains the best natural taste of the fish, seasoned with soy sauce dressing and minced garlic. It taste simple and incredible.
Prawns were seasoned and steamed Hong Kong style with light soy sauce and minced garlic. The prawns were fresh and sweet, accompanied with garlic fragrance and sauce that pairs well with rice.
